At least a 1:3 ratio.. ideally would be 1:4 or 1:5.

So if Los Santos is as big as LC in IV then the countryside aka the rest (which includes some smaller towns, airports, etc) should be at least three times larger. It's probably also most likely the case.. we'll see.

2 parts mountains/forest/desert to 1 part city would be good.  I'd also like the entire map to be at least 3 times bigger than IV's map.

I think 3 times the size of IV's LC is highly optimistic. Unless you wanna wait about a year or so, I don't think It'll happen.
Perhaps 2,5 the size, at most.

EDIT: Looks like RDR wasn't even Double of what IV was. And you wan't a bigger map than that?

This is a map I made. It's over 3 times the size of IV's map. It doesn't have 3 times the city area though.

In a series of GTa always been a major part of the map so I doubt that the city took only 20% of the map. So city occupying one third of the 30 sq miles map is best for GTA V, in my opinion. 9 sq miles city is enough large that there can be many interesting places and small enough to go through it in a few minutes.

20 sq m of countryside is more than enough, anything more than that would be too much for a game, alot is always good, but too much of anything is never a good thing

Im hoping for a 10 to 17sq mile city and a 25sq or more countryside, If R* said this is their biggest and ambitious game ever then the map better be f*cking huge.

25 squares.
Obviously more country than city.
Country shall include what the OP said, Forests, mountains, deserts etc etc.

If it is smaller than 25 squares then I'm not buying it. Nope, Not buying it.

Dude, I said no!

over 25 sq m. i was feeling so relaxed when cruising in sa countryside. listening k-rose or k-dust while slow riding a chopper to sunset in desert. it was very chilling for me. no traffic, no f*ckin city noises. anyway that feel didn't exist in iv. i missed. so i hope there will be a huge country side as big as will be.
