This is my speculation of course: 1) Delays: R* is famous for delaying games. For example they announced GTA IV exact release date during E3 2006 with almost 1.5 years in advance. The game was delayed few weeks before the planned release and the final date was given on January 2008. Looks like this time they don't want to reiterate their errors. 2) Marketing hasn't started yet: We've got a trailer then nothing for 8 months, then few screenshots. This is not marketing, this is the minimum to remind the people out there that the game exists. Probably the announcement was made ahead of schedule just to boost Max Payne 3 attention or maybe R* North had some development problems and the game was delayed or both, so we got nothing for months. 3) Trailers: A trailer, is one of the best way to promote your game. Seems that R* planned 3 trailers for GTAIV and released the second one just one month before delaying the game indefinitely. The third and the fourth trailer were released In december 2007 and march 2008. there were around 8 months without trailers. When the second trailer will be released probably we will be around 5 months away from the release. 4) Preorders: Now is almost impossible that GTA V will be a 2012 game: there is not enought time to promote it and preorders haven't started yet, so a lot of people already preordered some of the big AAA titles that are coming this fall, not GTA V. Conclusion:Is likely that the next step in GTA V marketing will be a second trailer, that is going to carry release date and platforms information then the preorder will start, so probably R* is waiting to be sure to not delay the game. Then the first previews will appear and the game will be 4-5 months away from release. Judging from this, I expect new infos for mid october-november like one year ago(maybe Vice city will be released on smartphone and tablet?). I these information won't be released in that timespan I fear that the game is having some serious troubles. These are the motivations but still I can't understand the lack of informations during these months. they should have released a couple of screenshots sometime, just to appear in Gaming website pages and give something to talk to fans without spoiling all the game. And please R* avoid sentences like "a few weeks or so". The Myth that GTA doesn't need marketing: is FALSE. Gta doesn't need marketing to be profitable because it will sell a dozens of millions copies even with a black cover and no trailers or images, but R* is a company and there is a difference in selling 20 or 30 millions. Marketing is needed to gain new custumers or make old custumers buy another game in the series and that's what makes the difference. I think that being to much silent doesn't help the game to sell. | QUOTE (grope_4_that_date @ Thursday, Sep 20 2012, 21:21) | | We should get something next week, as many expected this week. Am I right? | Hope so man, i have no idea...no expectations here, simply to avoid big let downs. I just don't get it why they can't simply say...folks, don't expect the game this year. And i understand very well that they can't go say 'It will release in May 2012' for example, but at least say something like...'folks, right now it's planned for early to mid 2013. So could be from January till June. I really DO believe they are able to simply say such a thing, there's alot of time between now and June, and i doubt they can't say it. They can definitely now tell how far along they are and how long it approx. would take to finalize it...but ah well, no use saying all this, it won't help a thing. We'll just have to wait and see, and probably lower our expectations significantly. Especially when it comes to GI covers and 'events' like this evening.

| QUOTE (JeteaFive @ Thursday, Sep 20 2012, 21:27) | Preorder started since the trailer 1 so since November 2011... I think they will announce the date when the game is almost gold, so 2/3 month before the release, because if the game is almost gold they have really poor probability to fail the prediction than announce a release date 1,5 years before or 7/6 month... | No. these aren't official preorders, official preorders comes with pre-order bonuses, launch window(at least), limited editions ,suggested shops on the game website and preorders on rockstar warehouse.

Yeah but it's better to expect it on a new week, my guess is that one day they'll post the trailer on a monday, so if on a monday we get nothing might as well wait for the following week for info. That's just me though |
I think the screnshots that we got were posted on Rockstar's website by an enterprising college intern who was working there in the summer to maintain their web page, and wanted to give us some shots that he (or she) found on the Rockstar devs' server. But that intern went back to college for the fall semester. I hope that he or she will come by to work for Rockstar again during Christmas break, so they can post some more screenshots for us. I'm not betting on Rockstar marketing to wake up to start the official marketing campaign yet ....

They do not say this because they want the people waited and hoped to see something every week.

| QUOTE (rodneythesavior @ Thursday, Sep 20 2012, 21:43) | | Wasn't there a time when games didn't have preorders? It seems like people put so much stock in this preorder bullsh*t, but the truth is, it's not necessary. You don't have to have preorders. It is, in no way, an unwritten rule that every game has to be allowed to be preordered. You idiots act like games never sold before all this crap was introduced. |
It was introduced because it was useful to publishers, R* did them since it became mainstream and they have all the reason to do the same with GTA V. I agree that the could have at least disclosed the release window, but probably they want to do it with a trailer and with trailer 1 was too early because of time or maybe they didn't want to losse attention that was useful to promote MP3, who knows
