Cops N Crooks Topic

I noticed since I was away from forum, a lot of topics have been created or wrongly used for discussion and talking sh*t about the best mode on GTA IV and it's best players.

If you want to discuss Cops N Crooks use this topic, got a question, or just want more players to play with, then feel free to add it here smile.gif

Got suggestion's for V's version of CnC?

Please no debating what is better here, autoaim or disallow. Both players are welcome here, but let's not discuss that topic, we all know autoaim is for noobs (even my girlfriend can kill players using it wink.gif )

So let's put our differences aside, and just talk about CnC smile.gif

Just to start things off, I'm going to try and explain why I love CnC. It's beauty lies in it's unpredictable nature and freedom, it's random spawns mean no two games are ever the same! Furthermore I love it's mixed element of shooting and driving, the chase type games are my favourite types, when the cops no matter what, don't give up the pursuit, as boss you can be driving, on fire and about to explode, you make a health pack in the last second, take a corner perfectly, go through an alley and lose the tail, meanwhile your team mates have extracted the getaway, you get to a bridge, as you see the cops getting closer, and jump out in to the water and escape in a co-ordinated plan! Or you could end up in a tactical game, with the getaway being camped, you use a helicopter as a scout to find the cops, your team of crooks move in, and try to eliminate them all through snipers or you could attempt to be rambo and go on a killing rampge, or you could just head straight to the GV, smash right into the cops and die in seconds! To me victory isn't all that matters, having a good fun game is more important!

Why do you love CnC?

---------

I saw a lot of hate in the Modders Hall of Shame topic, please keep that out of here.

I love CnC as it's purely unique, I've never played another game prior to '08 with such a set up. icon14.gif

I love the idea of a whole team escorting the boss to safety from a die hard LCPD Unit!

I used to love CnC like it was in the old days, regular group of 10-20 pros was usualy online at evenings playing together on private servers, lots of epic actions, funny moments and all that things that happens only in CnC, moments like in my videos made this mode special and my favourite:

But CnC these days turned into total joke, it usualy looks like this: public server hosted by someone who knows getaway locations and camping spots with 2-4 other players at the same level of skill (their motto is "dont kill boss, we need money"), they team up and play vs randoms who dont even know what to do. Few days ago I joined such game to the randoms team, ofc they knew me so I had already 2 kick votes in lobby but the host decided to "give me a chance", in the first round they were crooks, I went to the getaway but my teammates went to them, they somehow killed the boss and some crooks, in the second round our boss went to a heli and cops to the getaway, I tried to take it but than 2 cops in Infernus started spawnkilling me, after they killed me about 4 times I killed one of them than the second one went for a sniper riffle and started to camp, he tried to snipe me but I knew where he was and I had sniper too so I killed him with a quick headshot and ofc got kicked after that becouse he was the host.

AJ, my biggest suggestion would be to change the scoring system for CnC if it is in V.

The problem with the current one is that it can turn into a deathmatch, rather than the Boss trying to escape. Also we have encountered a lot of tactical suicides in round 2 recently (the guy who is on the crooks team round 2 charges deliberately into the middle of Cops when they are more than $1100 in front, so they win the game when their boss dies).

My proposed solution to determine the winning team is:

1) If your Boss escapes, and you kill the other team's boss, then you win, that's straightforward.

2) If both bosses die, then the team who kills the boss in the shortest amount of time wins. That discourages the entire cop team from camping and makes sure a decent amount chase the boss.

3) If both bosses escape, the one who escapes the quickest wins. In 2) of course, you may get some bosses just trying to run and hold out for a long time - but that won't work if the other boss is able to escape quicker - encourages risk taking and focus on the objective.

Something needs to be done about One for All also. The no re-spawns mean a lot of people leave the game when they die rather than have to wait for more play time. Perhaps both cops and crooks could respawn as backups so they can help the team out who haven't died yet, but can't escape themselves?

More options would be good too. Perhaps the crooks could see close blips of the cops like the boss - as an option versus no blips. Or maybe the Cops could only see the boss on the radar, but not the other crooks? I think in camping situations that could really be quite good - knowing the crooks are coming, but not sure exactly where they are.

To be honest though, it is still a great mode. If it came back exactly as before but with a new map, I wouldn't complain at all.

Thanks Jimbatron, those are some really good points.

That's so true, I'll be happy to just see the mode return again!

I'll write a little more soon, about your scoring system points idea.

Edit

Jimbatron I really liked your suggestions with rewarding the team who kills a boss quickest as the winner, or who escapes quickest as the winner, the only issue with this, is that teams will have to spawn equally, for example team 1 start as crooks in a large island, with the getaway a long stretch away, meanwhile team 2 start as crooks in a small island with a much shorter route to the getaway, also how far away do the cops spawn in these games? For time to be the deciding factor, rather than points $ - kills it has to be fair spawns in both rounds.
I personally prefer random though, but I do like your reasons for trying to keep the game, about a chase rather than turning into a team death type mode.

I really dislike One for All, and not only because of not respawning, but because if a crook gets killed once inside the getaway vehicle the round ends after a while, also a getaway is limited to four spaces /seats, so a round like 6 vs 6 makes no sense, 2 crooks can't even escape, if that's what the team aims to do. I'd say get rid of it, and just keep All for One!

More blip options would be great too.

A friend not on the forum here, an old timer from CnC on ps3, suggested an idea to me once. He thought replacing getaway vehicles with getaway locations would be better, e.g. buildings - *safehouses* (they can't be moved or destroyed! by gay cheaters).

Secondly another suggestion I got from him, was that the boss shouldn't have a distinctive blip for the cops, meaning they don't know who the exact target is, until of course they eliminate him. Not sure if that would be a popular change or twist on the mode, but personally I think, it would be interesting to see how that dynamic could change the game.

Yes you are right there is no perfect solution. This said, even with the current points system the spawn you get can give you a big advantage. For example, I'm convinced the most escaped from location is the boat by the big ship at the south east of Charge Island (when you start from little bay in Bohan). If you take the bridge south, a crook can often steal the getaway if they are quick, even if the cops know where it is, as it is one of the few where they do not alway start much closer than you. This means you don't lose a massive amount on kill count because you avoid having to fight camping cops for 15 min. On the other hand, if you draw the Boat House from the same start point, your chances of winning drop dramatically. Still, you are right that scoring on time would amplify this sort of advantage.

Another thing I was reminded of: an option for each team to vote for who will be their boss, versus random. Random is fine if you know everyone, but if there are a few newbies, it generally ends quickly and badly. A prime example here:

I'm in favour of it remaining random to be honest, I know I am probably the only CnC player who would rather it be random, but I like that surprise, oh sh*t I'm the boss.... wow.gif or thank God it's EL FUGA... or god damn it, it's the noob, time to babysit... lol.gif

But yeah some noobs are awful, you don't follow their waypoint, jump out, you're on fire, approaching a health, they jump out... they spawn near a cliff, they jump off it... lol.gif ....I see the funny side, and hope they learn ! But other players really hate noobs, it's understandable.

Last night I played a game, as boss I spawned in that North Alderney location, two cops dispatched, and I go off the cliff to the beach with a car, tip over suicidal.gif and my noob team mates come and pick me up in their car, most elite players wouldn't dream of getting in their car, but I jumped in and thought let's see what they can do.... I put a way point towards a rifle / health drop off, and they got there, all the time on the mic this kid was so damn excited lol.gif and I kept telling him , don't let me down... he did well and despite shortly dying after, it was fun!
Better games followed, but yeah I enjoy relaxed games, with mixed players and balanced teams, I've said it before, there is nothing worse (except modders) than players who only play against noobs, rather than with them.

Yes I know what you mean - sometime random can be fun, and sometimes saving an inexperienced boss against pro players (rare, but we've managed it at times), is very rewarding. I'd like the option to nominate boss at times though. Sometimes as well when we train new players up they don't want to be boss so the can learn how to play for a while without the weight of responsibility tounge.gif

On XBOX its normally filled with noobs who just run round, or retards who kill their own boss. Once though I found a Coquette, got the boss to get in my car, and floored it. The noobs/retards however got annoyed I was trying to help the team and shot my rear tyres out. So, I had to make a diversion to get a health pack, 2 cops appear, boss panics and gets out of the car, running into gunfire...

Another time the boss just ran up and down the highway near Francis Intl. I turn up in a car, save him from 2 cops and he just carries on running.

Sorry to hear Cops n Crooks on Xbox isn't that great, it's far from good on ps3 these days, but still on occasion you can find a good game.

Anyways on the topic of noobs ruining games, there's been incidences of noobs doing something worse than being a dumb boss recently for me, the noob that immediately goes to the boat as a crook, get's it and then stupidly decides to ground it, or destroy it.... devil.gif

In Max Payne 3, a type of game in Gang Wars, reminds me a little of Cops N Crooks, one player is the target, but his location isn't revealed til a certain amount of kills are stringed together, his position is then shown for a limited period of time, do you think rockstar might consider something like that? No blip for the boss, til a certain amount of kills is reached, No blips for the getaway until a certain amount of time? Just an idea.

I find CnC on Xbox normally succesful, joining games with more experienced players and not many nooby bosses sly.gif
Might just be time of day, although I have come across somebody going up and down the airport runway; as well as the "noob rambo's" who pick up an SMG and try to run to the getaway vehicle confused.gif

This happens sometimes on the PC. The problem is not that people lack skill, it is that they don't listen. When I first started playing, I did what the experienced players told me and learnt from them. First ever game I was Boss I didn't really know what was going on. The crook on my team though got a fast car told me to get in, and drove me to safety. Fortunately though we have enough regular players that idiocy is not too commonplace.

The best solution for CnC if they have it in V, would be to have a "classic mode" option that plays exactly like IV. Then some more options that change the gameplay. That way we all get to have our cake and eat it.

Brilliant suggestion smile.gif

There was one thing I liked about Witness Protection which I thought could work quite nicely in CnC, I'm not sure if it's different on PC, but occasionally you respawn as cop, out of the action, without a car and none seem to be around. How about you respawn inside a cop car? As you do in Witness Protection. Obviously the respawn distance couldn't be close if you had this advantage, but nothing annoys me more than a boss escaping because I couldnt find another car in time.

A noob with a headset works better than one without! It's good to see a new player joining the mode, liking it and sticking around to become a regular player, that's part of the reason why I dislike playing unfair games, or if I get killed by a lower ranked player, might even say , good job.

I might be more interested in escaping these days than TDM survival type games, which got old to me, but out of interest, does any one consider any buildings or parts of the L.C. map as being their favourite places to survive in? Like safehouses or good spots to defend from?

I think my favourite one is the Crack House from Blow Your Cover. There are two ways in, you can put a helciopter on the roof, and you can jump to the rail tracks too if you need that option.

The lawyers office is also quite good. I like ones with more than one way out, just in case it goes wrong and you need to move.

i was playing CnC but without the 1 boss where you all have to make it otherwise you dont get as much money (all for one i think) and i enjoyed it more than when you have to protect the boss because you can come up with crude tactics and don't have to worry if the boss is a noob because there is no boss. it is a really good game.

it does however have flaws because expirienced players know the spawn points better and if no vehicles spawned then its basically over unless you have a decent plan.

if anyone wants to play some CnC then add me and write in the message cnc

The best mode on GTA IV, has the worst players.

The Cheaters
Getaway Destroyers
Autoaim only fools
Glitchers
Team Killers
Noob Killers only
Cash spawn Modders
Turbo Assault Rifle lovers (not as bad as TDM thankfully)
Fake stat Quitters

But what about the unsung heroes, the people that play the game, against whoever, with whoever, any settings, never cheat or quit.

Do they even exist any more? Is it so easy to cheat that it's no longer fun or possible to play balanced and fairly?

To be honest you are the Only Guy i've seen in my GTA career who match with this description smile.gif

But Otherwise, no, these peoples don't exist, but with Time you learn to ignore it...
Even today i've played against High ranks, 1 4 all, i killed them with help of my friend kei-RPS and They just quit Before end.... Everytime They do this, 95% of High ranks are doing this... Thats boring but i dont care anymore because i see this everytime, so thats random to me ... Even low ranks who are begginners on GTA are god damn quitters...

I think peoples on GTA have got a retarded mentallity, seriously...thats sad, ive Never seen so many quitters in a game, and ive played alot of différent games... Even on call of duty i see noobs being Owned and getting raped in games but They dont quit, They stay in game and They keep trying to play better and They keep trying to win.... On GTA, especially CnC, there Is not peoples like this...looks like GTA attract most of the trash players of the Playstation Network.... But thats just my opinion. tounge.gif

Your right. However its not that difficult to understand. GTA being a game based on crime and underhand tactics to get what you want is it really that difficult to see that this is the type of people the game attracts? Also you mentioned call of duty. That game is the video game version of crack. A cheap quick hit and nothing more. Pre sighted maps where everyone can get kills and loadouts so you dont have to collect weapons seems to appeal to weak and that goes for max payne 3 too.R*`s COD and cant lace GTA`s boots. The time required to get good at GTA for most people is too much for them so they f*ck off back to cod where they belong. I hope they stay there. You have to remember that nearly everyone is 10* now due to glitching ect so when the cardboard sniper glitch/noose 10*`s come up against the real f*cking deal 10*`s they get found out.
