I've been thinking and was wondering about the idea of realism. I haven't used cheat codes in forever and only use them when I complete a game (in which I finished GTA IV a long time ago). Cheat Codes can seem cheesy and very unrealistic to me. (Obviously) Sometimes I would prefer the idea of having a "friend" supply me with what I need so cheat codes won't have to be used and ruin my save record. For example, I need a certain car like a van for a mission, I would call up a car thief or buddy who owns a van. Or if I need weapons, I (the protagonist) could call up an old girlfriend who's father owns a gun shop or something or... like how it was in TLAD. Some would prefer the fast, Magic, I want it now way but I love the idea of sticking to realism when it comes to things like this. What's the point of money after you beat the game if you can't spend it? What would you choose if given only one choice?

I'm curious, were people this concerned with realism back in the day when games were about yellow circles eating dots, spaceships shooting evil space bugs, and sentient marbles driving themselves through mazes?
I think both buddies and cheats should be in personally, but if I was FORCED to choose between the two, I would choose cheats. One of my absolute favorite abilities going from VC to IV has always been summoning fast cars and helicopters and tanks and various other vehicles using either a voodoo dance or my mystical reality altering cell phone. Not to mention the weapons, health, and exploding punch cheats. And those are all in IV. Exploding punch was BOGT, but still.
Of course they're unrealistic, but you don't have to use them. That's the thing, some (read: SOME, not ALL) people around here act as if cheats are forced on them and having them available will somehow ruin the whole game despite the fact that they're cheats and are in fact, completely optional. Why complain about something that's completely optional? Is the mere thought of other people using them keeping some of you up at night? And I'm not necessarily talking to the OP here, I'm just curious, because the only people I can see wanting to have cheats removed are either people who want everyone else to play realistically, or people who want to force unnecessary challenge on other people because "games today are too easy" or something. Either way, that sucks. Games being either too easy or too unrealistic is not a reason to remove optional reality altering abilities just so you can sleep well at night. Plus, forcing other people to play like you do is just bullsh*t. Sorry, but it is.
