So now it's official. MGS will be made into a Hollywood blockbuster and be produced by Avi and Ari Arad, Avi having previously worked on Spider-Man and Iron Man.

Na man, it's gotta be Shadow Moses imo. Not trying to bash your idea or anything... but come on. Don't you want to see the CLASSIC become the movie? All them times crawling through the snow so the guards won't see your footprints... would be great to see as a movie.

If I remember correctly, Eric Bana was able to do an accent eeriely similar to Snake's in Hulk. I've always been a big fan of the guy and think he should be given the role, a very versatile but sadly underused actor.
In any case, I think they need to forgo Liquid Snake and instead use Solidus as the main antagonist. Why? Well, given the current political climate in America, the Occupy Movement and such, the hazy desire for 'change', I think audiences would be conflicted when presented with a villain who was voicing a lot of what they want.
I know what you're thinking, "But Typhus, they can't go right into Les Enfants Terribles without any build-up whatsoever!" And yes, you're right. The cloning stuff should not be touched upon yet. But how better to make this movie an affecting, memorable experience than by going for the jugular and using the most complex villain right off the bat? If indeed they are able to make sequels, why not use them to flesh out this sprawling story of the Snake family?
Plus, I'd like to see a movie where Snake and Big Boss are on good terms before just going right into the Outer Heaven stuff. Snake always knew Big Boss was his father, develop their relationship before you go for the big shock. They obviously had a close relationship, Snake's killed hundreds of people yet after he killed Boss, he turned into an alcoholic wreck who closed himself off from society. We need to see why that is.
But yeah, Solidus as the main villain, Big Boss in the Colonel Campbell role and an emphasis on the themes of Sons of Liberty. I think that could really work. The movies need to remind why this series was so wonderful and maybe someone will again make a Metal Gear game that lives up to everything before MGS3.
MGS3 was pretty awful though. I'll always resent that game for ending the tradition of having fleshed out enemies who were often nothing more than extremely damaged, ill victims of war. We went from Sniper Wolf's death, to Solidus' grand speech to a guy in a space suit shouting "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRY!!!" Awful.
And what's worse is that it boils Big Boss' entire scheme to engulf the world in chaos to his girlfriend dying. That's it, that's what set the guy off. It bugs me because in the original 2D games, they actually gave him a pretty poignant speech about how war veterans are returned home as 'dummies' and exist solely for menial jobs or journalists to eek out a few sentimental articles. He was unable to fit in to modern society so tried to destroy society so he could feel 'needed'. He was a truly evil, contemptible human being.
But give him a love interest and suddenly most of the fanbase loves the guy. It's insulting, it's insulting to the great series that Metal Gear used to be. Honestly, I try to forget that MGS3 ever happened, it's just such a bad, bad game.
^ Who do you think would make a good Soilidus? If Liam Nesson was to play Snake, I can only see Ralph Fiennes playing Soildus.
Have you ever heard of Ciarán Hinds? Amazing actor, I've been a fan of his since his portrayal of Caesar in Rome. I think he has the gravitas to pull off the role, as well as the subtle hint of aristocracy about him. Solidus was, after all, the President and probably had access to far better education than Snake did.

I've give that a watch! From the clip alone though, it looks promising.
But come, Ralph Fiennes played Lord Voldemort you know! Plus both him and Liam were in Schindler's List... so they have worked together before. That seems to help with most movies if they have a bit of chemistry.

Fiennes is a great actor, I'll grant you that. But isn't he more accomplished in regards to villainous roles? Voldemort, Dolarhyde, Goeth. I won't deny that Solidus does some awful things, but what differentiates him is that deep down he does those things for the people. Whereas Big Boss and Liquid are misanthropic and Solid is apathetic, I believe Solidus is the only one who had geneuinely moral goals.
Can Fiennes play that kind of conflicted role? Hinds is an actor I chose because Caesar was such a divisive figure, with different segments of Roman society seeing him as either a hero or a tyrant. But I don't know if Fiennes has ever played a role like that, I fear he too often takes easy, villainous roles that don't challenge him as an actor.
Any scenes which show off his versatility? I'm always happy to open my mind to great performances

I see what you're saying about actors doing roles that better suits them. Ralph does play hardcore villains most of the time now that I think about it. I guess the only reason I chose him is because he looks alot like Liam Neeson's brother, so that would have worked perfect for the movie.
