Did a search but couldn't find a topic on this already.
In previous games I have found saving my progress to be a bit of a...clunky experience.
You have to park your car in the garage (or space) then go inside where you can't run and find your bed without running into the wardrobe by accident (SA).
Why can't the protag sleep in his car? Maybe have designated spaces where you can just park and save.
I'm the sort of person that likes to save after every mission just in case so it really bothers me. If you add up all the game time you spend driving to a safe house, parking, going inside and saving then it would surely be a high number!
Am I the only one or do we think this should be improved in V?

What about autosave? IV already had it. Maybe IV didn't have many safehouses, so for off-mission things it's annoying.
But V will probably have more safehouses to save at maybe even hotels or other safespots.

It'd be nice if we could rent a hotel room and save there, and maybe if you only pay $20 for a motel room you only pass by 3 hours in the game but if you go to some GTA version of the hilton you could actually pick how much time passes when you save your game.

^^ Nice idea. I wasn't aware that IV had an autosave feature? How does this work then?

saves after main missions and side missions. also when going on dates and taking friends out. on PC you can force the game to save with some mods

I think they could improve it, maybe design the houses a bit better (really hated running up all them stairs in IV). I think the concept should stay the same though. And I'm one of those persons who really don't trust autosave features, the fact that there was no manual save option in Dead Island really made the game considerably less enjoyable to me, just by the fact that I spend half the time worrying if the autosave actually worked. biggrin.gif

Autosave is the best way to get your progress automatically saved after a mission or side mission.

Simple soultion: don't run in such tight enviroments?

GTAs system in saving is fine. It's not broke; don't fix it. I actually disable autosave so i have to save at home. It adds to the immersion - something that makes GTA as good as it is. I don't think i've ever had a problem with saving.

RDR's camp feature was handy, and such a thing might work in V, sleeping in your car for example, but i want the save to be handled in game, not via a pause menus. I don't want Save Anywhere anyway

autosaves i guess is more meant for a backup in case your PC/ console crashes and you lose 5 hours of progress etc

What about passwords ? I remember playing a Sega Genesis game, where in order to start on from where you left last time, you had to write down a password that the game gives you after the completion of each level. It would totally fit GTA.

wow.. old school. When I was a kid had memo pads FILLED with codes lol. man, the 90's cool.gif

anyway OP, they should keep it like IV, just add more safehouses (alot more) and add HOTELS. This would be great for those "far away" missions and brings aa great sense of immersion.

IMO, camping, sleeping in the car, RV' s , or any other save type would be...uh.. of place. Unless the RV is a mini-game within itself (meth lab ala Breaking Bad), sleeping in a car car or camping would serve no real purpose in the pursuit of the almighty dollar. It wouldn't motivate and rarely is thought up as an option to criminals with money.

Think about it: "Hey, let's sleep in this stolen car with all this money and weapons in in the middle of this desert/forest/parking lot/alley/vacant building/dock/mountain range over here. They'll never spot us"...

chinatown wars is good, you can save wherever you are (at least with the ios version) this is maybe because the game doesn't work with iOS multitasking. but i like it, don't have to drive back the safe house everytime. and it was pretty hard to drive in that game too

I've always liked the way saving works in GTA. Going to your safehouse, parking the car and entering the house/apartment adds more RPG to the games imo, and i LOVE RPG's happy.gif

Bring back autosave, and if you want to save manually surely R* will do the sensible thing and let us save via menu/phone etc. Not all this travelling just to switch the game off.

I would like the SR2/JC2 method where you can save in the menu and it just warps you to the nearest safehouse. Making me drive back every time just seems like pointless padding. Sandbox games don't need padding, I can pretty much find a favorite activity and play it forever in them anyways.

One thing I'd like to see with regards to saving....

I think you should be able to choose how many in game hours time advances by. It's always been 6 hours but I'd like to be able to choose how many hours the protagonist sleeps for.

I like the choice to Manuel save wherever I want or drive to a safehouse to save. There is also autosave.

However rather than just a safehouse maybe we could save in a cardboard box on the streets like bums. smile.gif
