He was an okay character. I think I rank him somewhere in the middle in terms of GTA protagonists.

Anyway he had an interesting storyline and background and could also joke sometimes which was welcome. I also thought he looked cool in the suit you had to use for a job interview in a mission. I used to keep that suit for him afterwards.

He was my favorite. I am bummed because I know the next character won't likely have the depth that Niko had. Maybe I confuse troubled individuals for deep individuals... I really liked max payne's character too. I just can't relate to people who aren't scarred-up and a little self-loathing.

I personally liked Niko. He wasn't as ruthless as previous protagonists but he had an interesting personality.

You guys have missed the point totally. You obviously don't realize that Miamivicecity is being VERY sarcastic. Niko is his favorite protagonist and he loves GTA IV to the death, it's his most favorite one of the whole series.

Niko is probably my favorite Gta protag, and with the execption of Mafia 2s Vito Scaletta he is probably my favorite game protag.
I liked the way i was so cool in the worst situations, like when Andrei had kidnapped Niko and Roman for Mikhail Faustin:
Andrei: You have been a bad boy mr.Balkan, and the boss is not happy.
Niko: Oh no i sh*t my pants.
Andrei: Not yet, but you will. (takes up a hacksaw) Who are you working for?
Niko: Errr my cousin, Roman. Dont be an idiot.
Andrei: Thats not good enough. Im going to saw of your f*cking arm. Speak!
Niko: Okay, okay, your dad likes it up the ass... What do you want me to say huh?
(Andrei hits Niko with the saw)
Andrei: Very funny... do you think youre so smart?
Niko: No. Im tied up in a basement a long way from home, while some ape threatens me with a hacksaw, so no. Im not that smart.
Mikhail: Shut the f*ck up. My f*cking wife is watching televison.
Mikhail: Good lord ... what are you doing.
Andrei: Nothing... I mean... I was finding out who he is.
Mikhail: And? Who is he?
Andrei: He is... his cousin.
Mikhail: You were about to cut up some guy in my house, making all that noise, to find out he is his cousin?
Mikhail: Where did you find this idiot?
Dimitri: He was a friend of your sergeant, when we were in Vladivostok.
Mikhail: Hes an imbecile.
Mikhail: So, Niko Bellic. You think its okay to kill my employees?
Niko: If he is an asshole, yes.
(Mikhail shoots Andrei)
Mikhail: I agree.
This dialouge is one of my favorite game dialouges ever.

I loved Niko! His accent was so cool! He sounded like a cold blooded killer but wasn't so stereotypical, he'd kill people he needed to but even if he was getting paid to kill someone he'd spare them if he felt they didn't deserve it, I also felt an emotional impact at the end (Roman Death Ending) and he's like "Roman... never harmed anybody" just those words hit me like it was an actual movie
