No, he bored the crap out of me.
Tommy used to have me in stitches with his little quips; CJ was funny as hell... Niko was all like... "Can I interest you in a Ushanka? Cos you know... EVERYONE with any form of connection to the former Soviet Republic wears an Ushanka. And we all speak with exactly the same stereotypical Ruski accent and drink vodka out of shot glasses, while hailing the great leader Josef Stalin."
I'm surprised the loading screen didn't threaten me with "You not play GTA IV! GTA IV PLAY YOU!"
How deliciously original...
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.
And FYI, Niko was Serbian, not Russian. He speaks Serbian, not Russian. There's a difference.
He's my least favorite protag, he was too emo and depressed all the time about his criminal activities. I also didn't really feel any attachment to his story like I did with previous protags and even the one's featured in IV's DLC stories. He was just too unrelatable and sad for me.
Yes. He's actually my favorite protagonist. He can be a little too pessimistic at times but I think it's understandable considering all he's been through.

Yeah so, to be honest I don't really care who I'm playing, just as long as the story isn't abysmal and the game is good. ^^Man why does someone always have to say something rude?

he kinda came off as a whiner/hypocrite
Whiner? Hypocrite? How?
I would have to say hypocrisy comes through his major goal in the game. He kills people for money, but his underlying mission is to take revenge on a person he knew ten years ago because they killed people for money. Rockstar however didn't do this blindly.
If you notice, when Niko finally finds Darko, Darko is almost a split image of Niko physically. This shows how Niko is in some ways his own worst enemy through his hypocricy.
It's a bit different though. He goes after Darko because Darko betrayed all of them for drugs. Hipocrisy would be if Darko was a contract killer like Niko and Niko was hunting him because of it, however Darko is not. I mean, imagine that you're a contract killer and someone has 12 of your best friends killed for a thousand dollars. Wouldn't you want to exact revenge?
Agreed. I see a lot of similarities to Tony Montana in Niko. Like Tony he only kills who has it coming to them.
Niko is very devoted to his friends and family so I can understand his drive. I suppose someone could say he's a hypocrite because we can kill peds, but that's far from the confines of the story. I don't think any protagonist would kill an innocent person in cold blood.
I believe Niko is someone who doesn't like what he does, but he'll do anything that concerns friends and/or family.
If you look at the bigger picture, they both kill people to feed their addictions. Darko's addiction is drugs, whereas Niko's addiction is revenge.
Sure, his intentions are to keep Roman's head afloat in the beginning, but during the story his overall goal to extract revenge on Darko and eventually Dimitri unfolds. To do this, he kills people for criminals he barely respects to gain enough influence and money in order to have enough connections to find the men he is after, just so he can satisfy his own obsession.
"How much do you charge to kill someone?" Is probably one of the most powerful lines in the story. Again with the idea of symbolism, after killing Darko (if the player chooses), Niko claims to Roman that he feels "empty". suggesting that in some way he has realized that through killing Darko, he has killed a part of himself.
Yes we do, or at least I do. Roman mentions that his English is better than his Serbian, and besides that, check my flag bro. I don't need grey subtitles to understand what they say sometimes And it is definitely Serbian. A bad pronounced, bad accented one, but definitely Serbian.

he's the first one to appear as a main character in a HD world with the GTA series.
Oh really ?? I am so amazed you have told us this priceless piece of information, it is incredibly interesting. What a revelation
Man.. Your cocky as f*ck in my opinion.
I was trying hard not to be rude or funny, but come on. Look at what you wrote, it does sound real stupid. Just why are you telling us that Niko is the first protagonist in the HD-era GTA series ? Don't you think that everyone knows this ? Which other protagonist would have been before him, considering that GTA IV was the first GTA of this era ?

Niko was serberian. He barely mentioned alcohol. I liked how Niko was loyal, and actually had emotions. I mean, if you look at Tommy, he had barely ANY emotion compared to Niko. I've also noticed something.
Claude - No Emotion Tommy - Barely any emotion CJ - More emotion Niko - Realistic emotion
But yes Niko did his fair share of whining, but he was MEANT to be hypocritical.
Yes. he is my favourite protagonist in the entire series, i really can't think of any reason to hate him (he didn't whine that much imo) he is an amazing character.

I did, he felt like the first truly human protag in the series. He actually showed that the actions he was taking during the story bothered him, imo at least.
