Long story short, about two months ago I got into an accident with some old woman who crashed into me... they ruled it her fault and I got like 1890 from the insurance company to take it to a body shop but I fixed it myself and only had to spent about 600 for parts... and 200 of that was the paint. Anyway, I'm looking at the car today and I notice it looks like the bumper cover I ordered didn't include a part. The whole bottom part of the radiator is exposed... one rock into there and I'm f*cked. Here's the pic

I looked online for jeep parts from the site I ordered from and can't seem to find anything. I don't even know the name of the part and I checked with my father who definitely thinks something is missing as well but he has no idea what the name of the part is. Anyone know? Thanks in advance. Just for the record, the parts I ordered were a bumper bracket and a bumper cover.

Assuming your Grand Cherokee is missing the rubberised part in the photo (2005 model):

user posted image

I would instinctively call that part the 'front splitter' or 'bumper splitter'.

You have a 2008 Grand Cherokee so probably didn't have the rubber part before, I think you may have inadvertently ordered the pre-facelift bumper (marked 2005 in picture) which requires the splitter to make it complete.

Edit: Actually, with the way your bumper is installed now, do you have foglights or not? If you have foglights you have the 2005 bumper and are missing the splitter, if you don't have foglights you must have the 2008 part but are missing the entire lower half of the bumper. Though I doubt it is the latter because the huge odd-shaped gap would be more obvious than shown in your photo.

Pretty sure that's a 2005 bumper looking at those pictures. I would just order the air dam to go with it and keep it.

I have a 2005, sorry I didn't mention that in my post. I have the sockets for foglights but I don't have them. When I bought the car it didn't have them either. That whole lower gray piece in the 2005 picture is not on my car and was not on it when I bought it either. I'm going to go out and get a better picture of the whole front...

Oh okay, I was basing my advice on this post you made saying you have a 2008 model. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...entry1060998269

So then yes, for a 2005 you will certainly need the splitter.

Not sure why I said 2008 there... perhaps I was drunk/high or a combination.

Anyway with regards to this splitter, I'm not able to find that online. I searched all the jeep Grand Cherokee part sites for a bumper splitter to no avail. Do you know of a place?

May be you could get one from the same model Cherokee at junky yard?

The unfortunate part of this is that there's a 60-70% chance that anything that new at a junk yard has been in a serious enough wreck to render most, if not all of the front end body pieces utterly worthless. It might still be worth checking Pull-a-Part if you have one in your area, though - their site will give you locations. If they do indeed have one in your area, and they have a 2005 Cherokee on the lot, they'll have it listed on their site as well.

Unfortunately all the junk yards I went to had no parts at all like this. My father went to a bunch as well, and he called his friend who's a mechanic at King Bear and he checked the system and could not find any bumper parts in any junkyard on long island. I could look down south when I go back to school but I'd rather just order it online.

Pull a part isn't even in my state nor even in VA or Maryland. I could drive from DC to NC (like 5 hour drive) and get the part maybe though if they have it somewhere down there... it looks like they have a location in Raleigh. Again I'd rather order it online though. I don't even know what the name of it is because splitter doesn't come up on any site.

Do you think getting a front spoiler would do any good for protecting the area? I just can't seem to find anything that would go there. It looks like something is meant to fit in there but there is literally nothing online.

Have you tried getting a quote from a Jeep dealer? Considering it's a simple un-painted rubber part they might do a reasonable price. I have found at least some interior parts are actually cheaper from the official dealer than on eBay/scrapyards, so you may have a chance.

I actually haven't. I think I'll run up there today... however should I be looking for that splitter and the fender or both?

Search air damn, valance, or front spoiler.

It's obviously not a f*cking splitter. Quit using that word in searches. It's not going to bring you anything when seraching for parts to a jeep.

How does this look?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/JEEP-GRAND-CHEROKE...58395#vi-ilComp

It's already painted black so I don't have to spend 100 bucks having the body shop paint it for me.

Anyway - it still feels like I'm missing another part for a total of two missing parts. It just looks like something is supposed to be here. There are areas for some kind of item to click in here. I'm thinking it might just be for some kind of chrome insert or something if I wanted to put it but not sure.

$80 shipped? How much was shipping from Rockauto? You wouldn't ned to body shop to paint it, chances are it's just black plastic and even if it's not then a can of spray paint would be more than good enough.

Doesn't look like you're missing any other cover, just the chrome accent piece and the air dam.

The part from RockAuto would end up costing about 55 bucks to ship to me. I was ecstatic about it being 14 bucks but once I put in my zipcode I was screwed with like 35-40 dollar shipping. It might be a lot cheaper to have it sent to my address at school but I can't receive a package that big there.

Are you sure spray paint would do for it? I know the bumper cover came in primed gray and I put a bit of spray paint on it and it looked like sh*t as it didn't match the gloss of the car.

Also - those foglights, there's no electricity going into there but I was wondering if I can put some dummys in there or something. Any ideas about that?

Spray paint would be fine, and that's assuming it needs to be painted (99% chance it's fine as is.)
The cover and the airdam are completely different. With the cover, you're trying to perfectly match a factory applied automotive paint. With the airdam, it just needs to be flat or very low gloss black. It's most likely just black plastic, which is what it's supposed to be. It's not supposed to match the rest of the vehicle.

The plastic pieces that are on rockauto and ebay are basically the same thing. It is just an air deflector, and it's only purpose is to add just a tiny bit of mpg. And they will not cover up that hole in front of the radiator, it will sit just below it.

It sits on there like this:

I've got a neighbor with a Laredo that doesn't have a grille right there. I also looked online and found that most photos of 2005 and up Grand Cherokees don't have a grille there, either.

I've found several results searching for "front bumper grille", but they all look like cheesy aftermarket junk:
