Uhh, I hope that I got this right. Merging PMs doesn't really work, and I don't even believe it can be implemented. There IS only one way to do this, but it may be not the best way. You see, at the end of the window where you type the message, there's a field called Options giving you two options. They are:

• Add a copy of this message to my sent items folder
  
• Track this message?

Tick the Track this message? question, and it'll allow you to remove the the PM ONLY if the on you sent the PM to hasn't already seen it. This way, you could simply post again the updated PM and re-send it, by ticking again the box of the second question, in case you'll need to re-update it. Remember, this can be done ONLY if the person who receives the message hasn't already seen it. If he did, there's no way back.

I'm not sure if it helps, but it's the only thing that comes in my mind to help you.

This forum is working on an old version of IPB and as such, the possibilities of modifying it are limited. I don't think merging of PMs or posts would be possible at this point of time. Maybe we can look into this when we migrate to a new forum software.
