Just picked up a copy of GTA IV from walmart last night and I've been up all night trying to play the game. After i click play I get Fatal error WS10. After spending some time searching around the web i saw several posts about this and have tried the different solutions people had posted including steps giving to me from R* support, still no luck. My comp is a couple of weeks old.

Specs:

Windows 7 64 bit Service pack 1
AMD FX-4100 Quad-Core Processor 3.60 Ghz
8 GB RAM
EVGA GTX 550 TI Superclocked
Gigabyte MoBo

Currently also waiting on another reply from tech support and also trying to install it on my other comp to see if it works on that one. Any help would be great, tyvm.

Install this GFWL update.

If that didn't fix the error, then install XLiveless, although it will remove online play.

BTW should my GTA show up in my GFWL menu? Cause its blank.

Followed those steps already and have tried the re-installing the game a few times so far still no luck.

- install patch 1.0.7.0
- update GC and DX drivers
- install xliveless for 1.0.7.0 to bypass GFWL thing
- check that your firewall isn't blocking in the background
- check you have Windows OS latest updates installed

Heh ok i give up now im getting a different thing saying my system isnt compatible sorry for the time wasted but a game that cant just be installed and played is pretty lame. I have it on xbox but heard the pc version was a lil more fun oh well. ty for your time and responses.

Which application says your system is not compatible? And the exact message you're getting can help.

OK, I start to install the game and it says your system is incompatible with %P. At first i was getting all the way through the install but would get WS10 error when i tried to launch the game now i cant get it to re-install at all. Lol i do not know what the hell i did.

what do you mean not compatible . or your rig meets the system requirements or it doesn't . but your rig is far enought to run the game ??

Ok i figured the compatible problem out. I went into my setup and ran the troubleshoot which changed it to service pack 2 now im able to install again. Now to get passed the WS10 crap.

Whats the exact folder i put this patch in?

I put the downloaded patch in my GTA IV folder and also tried it in the Rockstar Game social folder nothing changed so i guess im putting it in the wrong spot? Also now gonna attempt the xliveless thing.

Ok i got the game to come all the way on by using the xliveless thing but cant seem to go past the introduction slide show....

i have an automatic update myself with Steam , but as far as i know official patch is exe . i mean you don't have anything to do except to run the exe ??

Well if GTA V will be that complicated to install than this, then Rockstar can go **** themselves. I mean, we're nearing the 4th anniversary of the release of the PC version of GTA IV and several people still have this kind of error, even Sims is easier to install than this, and trust me, sims can be a pain is the a*s!
