Did anyone actually read the post? He's not saying GTA V will be released in 2014 on next gen. I agree with the OP, it will be released in 2013 most likely. If they could, I believe they would release it in October, but that just isn't possible.

I'm not reading all that rubbish in the OP. GTA V will be for this gen and just because next gen might be out in 2014 this doesn't mean R* will stop supporting GTA V with DLC.

It'll take at least a year after next gen consoles launch for the fan base to be big enough that most developers switch to it just like with every console cycle. In other words next gen will be irrelevant to me until 2015 at least.

By that time bugs would have been fixed with the new console, a price drop and more games for the systems. That is why the fan base will grow and more developers will use the platforms.

I'm in no rush for next gen and won't but the PS4/Nextbox at launch like I did this gen because I simply don't feel the need to. I'm still waiting for a lot of games to be on the Vita and a price drop yet still use my PSP as a example.

Also yeah May 2013 is my guess for GTA V.

R* will release GTA V this generation even if PS4 and Xbox 720 is released tomorrow. Remember Man Hunt 2 people? The R* game that was released on Ps2 in 2007, a whole year after PS3 was released, and 2 years after xbox 360 was released...

R* is about passion, not about money. I mean, they didn't even bother to port RDR to pc because time is more important to them than some quick cash, EA style

We already knew consoles were coming 2014 -15 Sony and Microsoft stated that they were on a 10 year cycle.

GTA San Andreas was made in a wake of 7th generation consoles, yes? Yet, it still is a huge success in PC platform.
Console sales 'game' is big, but PC platform is universal - it doens't have generations of games, we can still run some cool games from 2001, while consoles feel a little restricted at this point.

IF the 8th generation consoles will have support for 7th generation console games, then it will be a win situation.

The Next gen has to support current gen. There's no way around it. There is no excuse to not have it. Especially with how much work they've put into this gen. They may stop production of Current gen games. But having BC allows the great games of today to still be played in the world of tomorrow.

Not everyone can afford to just buy a new console. Most of the time, they trade in older consoles to get a discount on the new one. Without BC on NextGen consoles, It would render any physical copies and digital downloads of 360/PS3 games completely useless. Add to that the fact that PSN/XBL will be essentially the same things in Next-Gen, just updated, all downloads/purchases you have on your current Gamertag will still exist. Meaning that we should be able to play anything that the 360/PS3 can play on the 720/PS4.

If the next-generation consoles have backwards-compatibility then we could play the PS3/XBox360 games on the next-gens so GTA V too. If not then there is absolutely no way to see GTA V on next-gen consoles. On the first PS3 you could play PS2 games and the XBox360 can play XBox games. The release of the next-gens is in October 2013 AT EARLIEST. The sales would be sh*t compared to the current consoles.

In the grand scheme of things a fall 2012 release would be the best. I think it's pretty sure there will be something like the episodes for V which was hugely succesful for Rockstar and it kept GTA in the charts for a long time. TBoGT came out 1,5 year after IV as DLC. The episodes disc a full two years later.

I think the consoles will be announced at e3 next year or something, from that point interest in current consoles will drop (it already does if you ask me). So if Rockstar wants to have their one, or even two, year DLC time in order to make a return on what's probably the most expensive game ever made putting the game out this fall (and eclipsing everything else) the much better option.

There's no way it's next gen. Just no way.

The new console generation might be on the shelves only at the end of 2014. A game being released in early 2013 wouldn't have their sales hurt by that. Consider also that since the failure in profiting with the GTA IV DLC's Take2 and Rockstar have changed their DLC to something that it's small and also promotes the game as they're doing right now with Max Payne 3. They would have the whole 2013 and early 2014 to release as many DLC's as they want without hurting the new consoles releases.
