This is opinion/thread, not concrete official news! (skip to the end to read the conclusion, ps: it's the only interesting bit)

Yesterday an EA exec dropped the ball. It's not the kind of news Microsoft and Sony want to have out there, both companies have failed to win the console war and both companies are still trying to profit from console sales, accessories and exclusives. According to some sources not only the consoles are very advanced in development they are targeted to be commercialized in 2014. It's widely believed that 2013 will be the last year of this generation and perhaps this PC generation as well(Win8 exclusivity). With the usual sales dropping on the year before a new generation, what is going to happen with GTA V and the expected DLCs? Will it be a factor taking in consideration that the next gen could support the old games(by then)

Now, talking about GTA in particular, the news about the forth coming generation may hint to what R* is planning with their new releases. Dates are still unknown and huge matter of discuss here at GTAFORUMS.COM, but one thing is certain, time is running out. There are only 2 scenarios, 2012 and 2013.

If it isn't too late, it must mean that it is soon to happen(2012). We should hear the release date of GTA V in the next week or two at least that's what an ignorant such as myself concludes. If so and hopefully so, this will surely mean that the game and dlc might have just enough time to be promoted and sold and TakeTwo will have enough time to keep their taxes in order, end of the story everyone is happy.

Taking in account that it may be too late for an announcement by Rockstar, 2013 is the year and March 23rd is the day as hinted in this forum. Will R* consider further delay if that happens? If 2013 is the year, They (whoever deals with it) will surely feel the need to "sell" the game and the DLC faster than ever, this if we take in consideration the usual period between their respective releases(game and dlc). I'm of the opinion that the idea was to have V as the last game on the 7th gen but if the circumstances are the those above GTA V could be the first next gen GTA, which to be fair is highly unlikely, still it could end up being a genius marketing idea, if xbox and playstation joint forces and end up selling their new console already knowing that they'll have a must have game on the shelves. I'm saying this I'm already fearing for the future title due to replace the unreleased V.
I'm just "gypsy fortune cooking" here but if the trend keeps going GTA's after becoming less common than new OS's will perhaps become as common as console generations, if they will run as late with GTA6 (evil guess) when should that be released, 2020?!

Anyway commercially speaking time is running out people have spoken about taxes and now we are speaking about the next generation, commercially speaking this game(we it's not an ordinary game) could fall short of expectancy, yet be an tremendous success anyway, well if it is GTA success is guaranteed. I'm sure they wouldn't allow a failure anyway, that's another certainty .

So i must conclude it will be early 2013, and of course on this gen, why? forget all you've read above(only idiotic altercations), the economy is pretty shaky especially for both Microsoft and Sony(one busy monopolizing the world and the other on asking for money), that said Sony and Microsoft will hold the consoles for just the right moment possibly somewhere at the end of 2014 beginning of 2015. Another aspect justifying a delay for Microsoft and Sony is the prospect that Nintendo have just shot themselves in the foot probably harming the sales of the Wii and also the fact that no publisher will take full advantage of Wii U because of their communities still being based in xbox and playstation systems, resulting on an development freeze, not taking full advantage of possible superior hardware neither of U's interface innovations, ironic if you take in consideration the success they boosted by being different and releasing later than the opponents, so releasing earlier must be a way to bring new publishers and franchises to the console, still the other publishers should wait for xbox and playstation. R* knows all of the above therefore they are more than relaxed at the moment, they will announce the game this fall to be released early in 2013 and then announce for 2014 (definitely the last year of the console) the release of the expected DLC's.

V will be released on current gen. Next gen consoles wont affect it. Rockstar wont release V on the next gen because less people will have the next gen and it will take years to reach the amount of possible consumers as there are on current gen.

Also there is plenty of time and Rockstar is in no rush. If the new consoles are to be out in 2012 why does that pressure rockstar to realease in 2012.

Unless R* is seriously stupid and wants to risk losing ALOT of sales, this will NOT happen. I am NOT buying next gen consoles a while after they come out because I don't need them, don't want them, and will cost too much and the games for them will most likely be near 80 dollars.

Between the 0 install base of next-gen and the fact it would delay GTA V by YEARS, I don't think Rockstar could even survive this idea. There are no announced titles except GTA V and Agent. What would they release between now and 2016? I didn't pull that year out of the air. I'm going by how long it took to upgrade Bully, announced for Xbox before the Xbox 360 was announced, to be an Xbox 360 game released over two years after the Xbox 360 was out.

Based on past history, the development of next-gen MS and PS consoles will take a year or two longer than expected, and then they will be expensive and will ramp up slowly in sales, and MS and Sony will both be wringing their corproate hands over the high development cost and having to sell consoles at a loss. I am thinking 2015 is the year of next gen consoles.

Breakthrough games are what sell consoles, so the question is, will some GTA (GTA6 maybe?) be one of the drivers of next console sales? I hope so. That might be dependent on GTAV being an absolute blockbuster, to drive the addicitive need for GTA6 out there in the future.

The console makers should be heavily subsidizing the best game developers, probably starting about now, to create the killer content that will make millions of customers feel compelled to shell out for the new consoles.

I actually do Expect GTA 5 next gen.

Although I think they will release it this gen first, I think the consoles might use it as a comparison between this gen and next. To get people hyped for the next gen.

It wouldn't hurt rockstar at all to release it on the next gen too, if it became a hit on this gen of consoles. Release it next gen with all DLC included and better graphics and smoother game play, and no bugs to speak of.

They release it early next gen and have bought themselves time to make a proper next gen engine that can take full advantage of the possibility's, and cash in on the first gamers to buy next gen.

Yes, we know that we're on the horizon of the next gen consoles. However, GTA V will be the last title of the series for our current gen systems. If Rockstar was stupid enough to push back GTA V until 2014, they would have a full scale riot on their hands. And they wouldn't have already released a trailer and screen shots if that were the case. GTA V will be out soon enough, as I said before, we all just need to be patient and hope the wait was well worth it. 'Nuff said!

No... I don't believe that Rockstar would wait that long... And the fans would loose all hype for the game, unless I'm wrong, if that happens since we would have to wait another year of info.
