Tough times, reinstalling GTA IV around 4-5 times in two days. And I have still not got around to understanding the complexity of installing a few simple mods. Such as textures, or graphical enhancers. Wild enough, I have done it a billion times and I know most of the works of GTA IV. But this much I do not know...
  • When should I install mods, before or after I patch GTA IV
  • Why do I get a black screen when I install Icenhancer X
  • What patch should I be using for modding GTA IV?

1. You should install mods after you patch your game, that way nothing gets messed up during the patching.
2. What patch are you running iCEnhancer X on?
3. It depends what you want to mod exactly. The two best patches are patch 1.0.4.0. and patch 1.0.7.0. Patch 1.0.4.0. is the best patch for using ENB configurations, like iCEnhancer X, because it is the patch they they are best compatible with. Patch 1.0.7.0. is better for using different types of script mods, like LCPDFR or some traffic fixes, it is also the best patch for playing multiplayer.

man you're totally wrong GTA IV is a great game and extremely well optimized for modding . first when you're newbie at modding you should use automatic installers like GTA vehicle mod installer for example and you should also post your specs , cause the tone of your post makes me think your rig just isn't enought for the game .?

I am fairly skilled with modding, hence I have made mods on games. I understand why you would think that though, but I am having trouble modding the game after it is patched to 1.0.7.0. I understand how to change and modify the game and what each folder or file is for. But I am in-experienced on when or how I should install a mod without f*cking my game up. It seems there is a specific way to do it for every mod involving textures or graphics, because whenever I patch my game it doesn't do well.

I tried to install Realizm IV 6.2 after patching GTA IV to 1.0.7.0 and the game would crash a second after I am inside the game. I see a quick glimpse of gameplay and then it crashed. I've been doing testing and debugging the entire afternoon and still found no solution about installing Ultimate Textures (Realizm IV) after patching 1.0.7.0. Now on the other hand, yes... I am using 1.0.7.0.

Should I try and use 1.0.4.0? And if so, I'll do it right away. I have just done another fresh install...

If you're trying to get ENB mods to work, then yes, 1.0.4.0. is the best patch to do so.

yep, i just want realizm iv and icenhancer (enbseries), other mods don't really matter

have any of you got the icenhancer x on 1.0.4.0 to work without changing the iceshader.fx and timecycles?

It doesn't work for me either, I get a black screen too and I'm using patch 1.0.4.0. Have you tried any of the other iCEnhancers like 2.0N or 2.1?

I don't think there is an iCEnhancer 3.5, do you mean 2.5?

oh, for some reason my reply didn't submit... there are actually a few videos of a 3.5 alpha and I've downloaded it before... but I don't know if it is really a legit 3.5 alpha or if someone renamed it to that.

I'm not sure, I've never heard of a 3.5 before, it may not have been legit because I know a lot of people customize iCEnhancer. Have you tried some of the first iCEnhancers, like 1.25 or 1.35?

Here are the configs that I think are some of the best.
Legit iCEnhancers: http://www.gtagaming.com/downloads/author/icelaglace
iCEnhancer 2.1: http://icelaglace.com/

Very good non-iCEnhancer ENB settings
L3EVO 2012: http://www.gta4-mods.com/misc/l3evo-2012-n...2-nvidia-f11884
Legacyy ENB: http://www.gta4-mods.com/misc/legacyys-enb-20-f16369
