I would like to see less of an emphasis on guns at the early stage of the game. They could take more time to introduce other elements such as the combat system and public transport.
I know a lot of people would prefer to jump straight into the action, but I think overall a buildup makes it much more satisfying when you do finally get to the big action parts.

The first mission where guns are introduced always involve killing multiple enemies and 'throwing you in at the deep end'. I think a mission where you are given a gun and told to shoot someone in the leg as a warning but not kill them would kind of 'ease' you into it a bit more realistically.

What are your thoughts?

Yes. I felt we never really got to use and take advantage of the combat system in gta 4 because, be honest, when did any of you really use melee outside of the first mission?

This has been covered a few times and I agree. I posted a thread about progression on the game and how things should build up. Guns should be very hard to get at the beginning. Either by being to expensive or just not having the right contact.

In every GTA game before, first thing i always did is search for gun spawning locations before doing missions and progress. Well searching for guns has always been fun for me but when you have powerful guns at the beginning the story missions sometimes can be ridiculously easy. There should be balance between them. I do not want to lose the fun of searching but i also do not want to end up with so much powerful guns at the beginning of the game.

Even when we do get our first gun, we should have to use it sparingly, for example we don't have contacts to buy weapons/ammo yet. And we shouldnt be able to get hold of more powerful weapons for quite a while

Yes, the first 10 or so missions to have little gun involvement & not to kill people, but maybe injury them as part of a mission where your given a pistol.

If your lucky to find a random weapon around the map then you can do whatever you want with it, of course.

Maybe a few missions in were given a silenced pistol & have to get someone to talk by shooting them in the leg etc.. with it all being quite (hence the silencer)

No, the first mission where you get a gun is the mission where Little Jacob asks you to come with him and defend him.. which in GTA language means kill at least 10 people

First, only body combat, then knifes, baseball bats, or using stuff of the city, then an awful pistol, then the real deal......and of course missions with silencers, maybe tranqulizers...and more.

No, it would ruin the game. GTA does not need to rip off any games, especially that piece of sh*t Call of Duty.

On Topic: It would make sense. They should have more missions with hand-to hand combat in the beginning, then using bats, knives, and improvised weapons.

Yes, I like the idea of being introduced to the game slowly. It would be nice.

I remember San Andreas introduced you to new features such as cycling in the first missions, spray painting etc. It was nice cause you could kinda soak in the sights and sounds as a pedestrian.

Did it ever occur to you that you could have melee'd pedestrians outside of missions?

Also, melee was not a part of the first mission. You got off the boat, met Roman, got in the car and drove to the "mansion".

I think guns should feel hard to get at first. It makes shooting them all that more special.

I definitely want a better defined progression for weapons.

GTA IV had it somewhat right. I do recall getting the first pistol and feeling powerful. I want it to go further in that direction.

I want the pistols to roar. I want to be shaken by the recoil when shooting them initially. I want to think 'Dang, this is a cannon of death'. Walking around Los Santos with a pistol in my back pocket, I want to feel invinsible. Then I want to be proven wrong by shotguns and SMG's.

I think it's very important to nail that moment. The first few missions should deal with a deeper melee combat system. Imagine having to wrestle an enemy to the ground and strangle them to death (like an enhanced RDR). Then getting a knife, and being able to kill them with a stab or two. Then finally getting a gun and realising the power of dropping people from a distance at the cost of a bullet.

I do that as well. The more powerful weapons could only spawn on the map later in the game, or when the story has unlocked them.

You must have forgetten 'Bleed Out'.

In that mission, you beat up two guys, and then take out the last one with a knife.

I agree. a very slow progression to more advance weapons would make the game's pacing a lot better. I don't want to get a pistol until at least the 10th or so mission. Melee weapons/hand to hand should be the standard for the first chunk of the story before the plot thickens and murder starts getting involved.
