Ok this may just be me but I honestly felt like the police helicopters in IV didnt really pose a threat.

I remember in III you would try to avoid 3 stars because you knew how much harder out running the chopper was.

And in VC I think I was the most wary of the 3 star wanted level. The choppers were very hard to out run and they also deployed swat team members. If you were ready for them they were easy to pick off but if you were in a heated gun fight they definitely turned up the heat.

In IV any time there was a helo chasing me it didnt really affect me. They werent too fast so I felt like out running them wasnt a problem. They didnt shoot with the mini gun. And the shots that did come from the helo may as well have been from a pistol.

So what do you guys think. Am I the only one who feels this way. What can be done in V to add more of a threat to the police helicopter???

I honestly dont remember the nature of the choppers in SA for some reason

In GTASA, the police helicopters were no big deal and were very easy, though swat guys came out from it. They weren't as armored as in VC (200 shots of minigun... in SA: 10 shots tounge.gif )
I did not played much of GTA4. But I think that GTASA's is a bit harder than in GTA4, as from what I've seen in GTA4.

Yeah, I hope that the police generally will be a threat and more challenging. And I sure want to have that "Oh sh*t..." feeling when I have 3 stars.

One key difference that made IV's helicopters less of a threat was that you could simply take out the pilot or the two guys on deck shooting at you with combat rifles. I agree, bringing back deployable swat teams from the choppers at 4 stars would be good to see. Having the swat on deck shooting at you with a mounted rifle/minigun instead of using weaker assault rifles at 3 stars would also be an improvement.

But as the difficulty they dish out goes up, it'd be nice to balance it out with more options to damage their chopper such as throwing them off course by shooting at the propeller and tail.

I think the IV choppers were meant to be slightly less of a threat, if your in a big built up city full of skyscrapers and subways it wouldn't be too hard to slip away unnoticed unlike LA or Miami where its mostly open airspace (besides the downtown area).

I think the choppers in IV were always on the scene too quick. Fair enough they wasn't too much of a threat but literally you could have no wanted level, kill one cop and there would be a helicopter within 20 seconds. I think that a couple of minutes on three stars before the helicopters appear would be more realistic.

Also, I think that your wanted level jumps to 3 stars too quickly. I know killing a cop is a little bit worse then punching an old lady but its still abit much going from 0-3 stars from one kill.

Agreed. In VC it was impossible to catch up with a police chopper if you were flying one.

A good way to balance it put would be to include heat seaking missiles. I know that might sond like over kill but there's ways it could work.

You can only hold two missiles, so two chances is all u get.
You need to have the target within a box through your scope for a particular amount of seconds before it locks on.
Since the helos are faster now it will be harde to lock on to them AND they weill be able to out run the missiles. But tht gives whoever fired them time to retreat while the chopper is trying to evade.

This would be great in multiplayer. The chopper pilot will get an audible alert when a heat signature has been locked. Telling them to move their asses.

If your on the ground police helis should shoot at you from the heli & drop police on the ground via rope like in the III era.

If your if the air police helis should shoot at you, if you have six stars then the hydra jets are after you which fire missiles & machine gun

OT; imagine if your on the ground with a sniper rifle & you see a plane in the distance coming towards you, if you hit the pilot imagine the plane just falling down & hitting the ground.. that would be good to watch...

you wouldn't really need to hit him, just come close enough to make him have to dodge then hopefully make him crash

No... D: Although, for the SWAT and FIB I would agree, but the normal police should stay as dumb. That's the fun thing about them, they crash into stuff and do barrel rolls. tounge.gif

I think theres a difference between dumb and over the top. I think the cops should be smarter but retain the "at all costs" ferocity

It would be more interesting with a little of dumb police officers and a bunch of more smart police officers, FBI agents almost unbeatables and the Army with no chances to live. cool.gif

Yep taking out a police chopper was dead easy in San Andreas about 20 shots from the minigun (3 seconds) and about 20 shots from a Shotgun..And I do hope that the cops will be dead tougher in GTA V. The more the wanted level the more tougher and more advanced weapons they are armed with. devil.gif devil.gif devil.gif devil.gif devil.gif devil.gif

Honestly I think the wanted level system in IV was a HUGE improvement. As we're cops AI. But now they need to polish it and the helicopter is a big part of the IMO.

I would like the police helo AI to be almost as good as some of those awesome multiplayer guys. You know those guys who piss you off because you can barely move without dying. Just a little less expert than them.

agree with most on here. deployable SWAT via helicopters, and air to air fighting with the helis would be fun.

I always believed the police chopper to exist to augment the ground forces. Never a big threat on it's own, but when coupled with the police on the ground it would force the player to run. Anyway, I was always angry at the fact that the Noose choppers would never use their miniguns. Even more annoyed at how clunky they were to use in combat. I think alot of the problems could have been alleviated by removing the quad minis, and replacing them with door mounted minis. This would have made the Noose choppers a much larger threat in multiplayer, and singleplayer. Hopefully we will see something like this in V.

I think that helicopters should have at least a 6 min. deployment time before they start chasing you. Like come on. In IV the EXACT moment when you get 3 stars a chopper just spawns in from god knows where and is on your ass in like 30 sec. Unless you are spotted by one of those Blackhawks (Annihilators) that patrol the rivers the regular police choppers should be timed. In exchange for the long deployment time I think the helicopters should be 2X as dangerous as they were in IV. I would like to see the Vice City choppers come back they were pretty dangerous.

What? I personally thought the San Andreas helicopters were harder. Their guns seemed to take more health off you and whenever you'd take them out they'd always collapse on you, resulting in huge loss of health or death. The comments the pilots said were really funny though.

"You're going down hard man, RIGHT NOW!"
"Just shoot him you pussy!"
"Hey, I can see my house from here!"
"You're in trouble now, bad boy!

I thought the choppers in IV were actually pretty difficult in some scenarios. If you stopped, they'd blast you, so it always kept me on my feet and moving, and sometimes forced me to take cover under a roof or bridge. I didn't find them difficult in any other game, besides SA
