| QUOTE (Barguast @ Friday, Aug 17 2012, 10:31) | | I'd be surprised if it was intentional. If so, it was a pretty bad idea... then again, what will the consequence of a bunch of angry fans be? We'll all still buy the game anyway as well as every other game in the series. And the DLC. Nevertheless, it's certainly bad form. | Same view here. But isn't it good rather than WAITING THE WAIT to ENJOY THE WAIT???? Like me

If they did I think it was a stupid thing to do in the first place... |
It's possible they knew but keep in mind Max Payne 3 was delayed by 2 months and hasn't sold too well. V marketing would be delayed by 2 months and it seems they want to push the DLC for MP3 as much as they can.
I think we were probably meant to get V info around about July/August and MAYBE the game was supposed to be released in October. Might explain why they gave us the two screenshots in July. I think they have internally delayed V to 2013 and will start marketing around October/November. It would probably have been later if they didn't consolidate the remaining MP3 DLC's.
Just my thoughts. |
If they have delayed V to 2013 then it won't be released until March 31st (BioShock Infinite is coming in Feb.) which means there is zero chance of any marketing starting in October.... more like January at the very earliest. Of course, that also means Take-Two won't live up to their projected revenue #'s for for FY '13 which ends in March. TakeTwo could not survive that from their investors. So there's no chance of that scenario playing out which means 2 things: Either Bioshock gets pushed back and GTA V comes in Feb. to get 2 months worth of sales in before the fiscal year ends, OR V is getting released over the holidays. If TakeTwo lowers their projected revenue numbers at the September conf. call we will know that GTA V is coming after March '13. If not, I'm sure we'll start seeing the beginnings of the marketing campaign. This post has been edited by StretchPesos on Friday, Aug 17 2012, 11:07

Yes. The trailer was released to raise invester confidence and their company's worth. Perhaps they wanted to give us something, but then the fans said "not enough you c*nts"
Hell maybe they've done what I would have done and after releasing the trailer realised that many of these "fans" are spoilt brats who cant be pleased and ater the hateful comments sent to them said "Well fine, no game for you till you grow up". But i doubt that.
Since the release of the 360 in 2005 or whenever the hell it was, a pattern has emerged. That of money and greed. There once was a game called Assassin's Creed, that was praised. That elevated the company to the big stages. But then they thought "Here's number two, but what if we took bits out of the game, and sold it to them as extas?" That's exactly what they did, and they werent the only ones
Rockstar avoided this. GTA IV's DLC is among the best quality ones. For under Ģ20 you get effectively two new games. Fallout too did the same - PROPER DLC.
But companies like EA, Activision and Ubisoft, to name but a few (as every company does it now) offer "incentives" to preorder - bonus (read removed) content, extra (read cut out) missions and weapons. You pay for what they deliberately withheld.
Still, Rockstar avoided this but with Red Dead came a tiny flash of worry: the preorder DLC. The outfit, the horse, the guns. No one could have all three until lwell over a YEAR later - THEN you had to pay for it. It was a small point and Undead Nightmare once again proved that DLC can be worth the money.
But then came a game called LA Noire, where cases were REMOVED from the final cut of the gam (Xbox users can play one of the homicide (i think) cases where at the beginning, the cops talk of "martinez" or something - an in depth conversation about a case that the gamer has not played. Why? BEcause the case (the consuls car) is only for PS3, a "f*ck you" That R* did with EFLC.
There was a multitude of preorder and exlusive content for LA Noire, THEN the usual raping of DLC. Granted, the cases were more substantial than a single weapon (another DLC that LA NOIRE had), but the warning signs are there.
My prediction hinges on the rumour that R* do not plan "Episodes from Los Santos" DLC. Instead i FULLY expect to see GTA V having preorders from one shop having a unique car, preorders from another having a weapon, or a section of map, or some radio songs, while European purchases offer YET ANOTHER "exlsusive bonus" and US ones offering yet another.
Then there's the DLC- likely a few extra cars or a radio station. I expect to see this because this is the way the industry is, and the pattern i (personally) see Rockstar taking.
So yes, i think Rockstar/TT knew EXACTLY what they were doing with the trailer and the almost year long wait for the next one. They have alienated some games, incited others to boycott the game or pirate it, and made most of the rest of us just look toward Saints Row or True Crime Sleeping Dogs, or whatever. I'm sure V will be a great game, but I think Rockstar are beginning to succumb to the Dark Side of the industry.

I doubt it, imo the game was planned for a release in october 2012,but you know, a huge game, "our biggest map ever", the Xbox 360 version could have been problematic, a possible Wii U version....clearly seems a delay until early 2013.
This strategy is stupid (6,7,8....11 months without information) . People compares the time between GTA IV announcement at E3 2006 and the first trailer, but the situation was completely different. Was Microsoft who announced the game to advertise its new console, no Rockstar and not with a trailer.
Even then GTA IV was launched 3ī5 years after SA( in those 3ī5 years R* built a new engine for a new hardware and did a new game), now, they will launch GTAV FIVE years after the last GTA, the longest gap between two GTA games in R* history..... working with the same engine and in the same hardware than the last gta.
Itīs not intentional, simply itīs an example of how R* works , I mean delaying its games sistematically, causing as collateral damages delays in all its next projects.

| QUOTE (Barguast @ Friday, Aug 17 2012, 12:14) | I don't think the wait is feeding the hype or gathering attention. It's doing nothing. Outside of this forum, no-one I know and no gaming websites I read give it much attention at all. The odd sniff of information - the screenshots for instance - hardly fires up much enthusiasm either. I find myself coming to this forum just to clean house.
It'll obviously change once the news really starts coming in, but for now I don't think Rockstar are doing themselves any favours - financially, or from a PR perspective - and that leads me to believe that something is amiss. I can't see this being planned. | I agree. It's either this or they decided to change some aspects of the game late enough to mess things up. IMO they might have found a bug in late development, something Devs fear as death itself, and they're trying to fix the whole thing so we dont get a Skyrim (my reference refers to the fact that the game is amazing but not all it could be cause of the bugs). Now i do hope that, as theorized by Mokrie Dela, I sure hope they're not going to the dark side. That would suck for us.
