What if the protagonist dies and you'll have to play as someone else?

This could be Mid-way the game or even in the beginning.

They did this with Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire... so... is there a possibility they'll do it in V?

There is a strong possibility within this community that multiple protagonist will be played in the gta V. Like you mentioned we have seen such idea unfold in red dead and l.a. The possibility is there, just like the infinite ideas that can be possible, due to the lack of information. It would be heart breaking to have to see a protagonist die, and have another sweep in and take control, but rockstar can get it done.

Having the protagonist die goes against the whole open world and non-linear mechanics of the game. It would be lame to kill him off and yet continue to play as him after the story so you can go about all the side stuff you haven't finished, so I doubt we'll ever see a GTA protag die in his own game.

If it serves the purpose of the story, then I think it should be done. It also only works if there is a viable candidate to play as after the story is complete (if there is multiple protagonists like I think there will be, this shouldn't be a problem).

It can be a running inspiration of the story.

So lets say, the first mission the protagonist dies by someone.

You play as someone related to him, work your way up for money, become popular.

Then the same people who killed the 1st protag decide to kill you.

So, then you found out that he's the one who killed the 1st protagonist, so you kill him.

I know it sounds lame, but this is the best I can pull out of my ass at the moment.

Who says the old white guy is the protag? I wouldn't rule out the black/hispanic guy yet.

I wouldn't like it. It served well in RDR an L.A. Noire, but those games were far more serious than the gta series has ever been.

It would probably be something like Breaking Bad.

The Protagonist finds out he's going to die, so he goes back to crime to provide for his family. After he dies, you play as his son/brother/close friend. It's not like it hasn't been done before.

I don't think so, if they're going for "new." This idea isn't innovative, they've done it before.

What I've been thinking though, is if they're doing multiple protagonists, perhaps one might kill the other at some point, unless you're playing as the one who is supposed to be killed, then you have to kill the other guy instead.

Like say you're playing as the balcony guy and you gotta do the mission, lets call it "Shootout," and you get to kill the mexican guy, but if you're playing as the mexican guy and you do Shootout, then you have to kill the balcony guy instead.

I dunno, just throwing around ideas.

Except he didn't die.. yet?. But your theory seems logical and it would be pretty interesting.

I only hope that he won't die at the end.. the end of LA Noire with the death of Cole Phelps was way too depressing and too sudden. Similiar with IV. I just want a more happier ending in V.

I don't know, but I think it's very likely that some very important character dies troughout the story at some point. Death brings drama, drama brings involvement with the game. When John Marston died I almost cry dude.

In RDR, the protag's death suited the game and genuinely shocked the player. L.A Noire's was poorly done and left me dissatisfied. If the protag dies in this game, I'll just be like: "Meh, another one R*?"

No I don't think it fits with the game. It doesn't make sense. Normally if you die, you just show up outside the hospital and continue. And now for one time you really die? That's silly. That has always been a GTA hallmark and I don't want it changed.

I hope the protag doesn't die. In RDR it was well done but LA Noire wasn't that good in how Cole Died. I do like Rockstars unhappy endings. I would rather them make it a unhappy ending than a happy ending. It seems more real. But if we have to chose like IV than make a better choice. Kate dumbs you if she lives and you lose out on a good ride. If she dies nothing bad happens. Make it you lose your main Protag or a close friend of his.
