My favorite Protagonist so far is Claude from GTA III. He doesn't speak, he kills people without mercy, shows no remorse, has a cool design and is not too old so that the players can identify with him.
I picked Claude (though Claude and Claude Speed are the same guy, at least by name) because I can somewhat identify with him. Also, the other protagonists seem kind of dumb, maybe except Tommy and Niko. I probably would have picked Niko if I had actually played IV.

Shallow characteristics aside, explain to me please how can you identify with a person who's so sick and cold-blooded and he kills people without any emotions whatsoever? Even Tommy and Niko, who killed a lot of people, weren't so morally dead.
Because he has no actual personality you have more freedom, you can roleplay for example. When you play as a character with personality that RPG freedom is gone because you'd think, hmm would he do that or would he do that. So if you play a character with no personality you can add your own experience to that character.
Yes but that's not identifying with him. When you identify with a character, you find similarities between them and you, you find yourself in the character. I don't think any of us can connect and find themselves in Claude. Anyway I get what you meant.
sh*t, there were two "Claude" options in this poll. Man, couldn't you at least put the series name in the bracket? Anyways, I liked Claude a lot as he was a bad ass like Johnny. Tommy was a little unsatisfied about killing Diaz. He knew that he wasn't the whole cause of that attack. It would have been a great if Sonny would have died first and then, Lance or Diaz. Then, GTA VC would have become a great story. Lance trying to squeeze Tommy for all the assets and then leaving him dead. It would have been a betrayal and a great fight.

He's silent for most of the time. I am generally a silent person as well.
Claude actually hesitated to kill Catalina once, so that goes to show that he still cared about her so he pretty much spared her that time. Tommy wasn't less morally dead. He just expressed his opinions more but still didn't hesitate to kill and he cared about money, whereas Claude only cared about revenge and money.

Tommy Vercetti, he was badass and very tough. Claude wasn't my favorite because he didn't get along with me. Niko too was another Tommy he too was badass but Tommy was better.
