They should do background loading but if you choose to skip a cutscene it should stop the cutscene and show a classic loading screen. One thing I'm sure will be in GTA V is no loading before cutscenes like Red Dead.

Sounds like that'll be Rockstar's "bold new direction". Perhaps interactive cutscenes as well?

Thats hardly a bold new direction. I don't like it when people say a bold new direction is just one little addition like this. A bold new direction is either just marketing talk and doesn't mean much, or, is somthing big that affects gameplay overall.

How about, instead of making stupid ass cutscenes that just reiterate what's already happened a few times AND cost Rockstar time and money to make, we just ask them to try to make loading times shorter?

Seriously, 2 second black screen loading times would be the sh*t.

I doubt it'll be like in Max Payne 3 where you CAN'T skip the cut scenes since GTA is just about small missions while Max Payne 3 was just a huge level you had to pass through but I wouldn't mind if they stick to their classic loading screen it doesn't bother me

As I said before this isn't bold, and I just want black screens. I hope this idea nowhere in the game.

I'd rather stick with skippable cutscenes and a few seconds of loading time than have forced cutscenes that I can't skip on repeated play-throughs.

Me too. Even though I mostly watch the GTA-cutscenes even on the 10th walkthrough...

But an option to pause the cutscene like in RDR is indispensable, I think.
Black loading screens never annoyed me.

Yes. The pausing cutscenes were great in RDR. Especially because I have helpless lazy parents, and they need to call me every 30 seconds of the day. Generally, the busier I am, the more they need me. I needed the pausing cutscenes, because they let me actually understand the story, even having to stop every f*cking second.

I want R* to focus on something different than a stupid loading screen.
Loading screens should be on their list for the next-gen gta.

I never had a problem with the loading screen either. I'm actually looking forward to the concept art that's shown before you enter the game.

it's a little "old school" i guess you could say,but I'd like a progress bar for the load screens....just something to let me know that the game didn't freeze, even though that hasn't really happened while playing gta iv

Interactive cutscenes? Eh, no.. it doesn't fit to a GTA in my opinion.

As for loading screens.. yeah, I think they should be limited. And like in MP3 they should loading parts or whatever while there is a cutscene. And just a quick fade out/in to gameplay. Or a seamless transition to gameplay would be nice too. But I think this feature is more suited for cinematic games like MP3.

Also you should consider that GTA is open world.

But in RDR there was no loading screens when it finish the cutscene, so maybe we would see a smooth transition between cutscene and gameplay. Just only a loading screen, and it's when you enter the mission

I hope there is an addition texture pack install you could do on consoles, like 10gb or so which will make loading quicker and have smoother textures in game. I thing Gran Turismo 5 had it and Battlefield 3 did too.

I like background loading because I don't like the immersion being broken by LOADING... screens and fadeouts. I am talking about loading screens that take place in the middle of the action or autosaves at the end of a mission checkpoint, not those that take place during intentional, sleep-for-6-hours game saves.

So when I saw MP3, I thought, "Good, I hope that GTAV uses (only when needed) similar seamless little in-game animations (like when the protags jacks a car) to maintain scene continuity through some kind of transition like an autosave, or especially for entering a building. And furthermore, for example, I would gladly trade the tiny inconvenience of watching a small animation / cutscene of the protag opening the door and entering a building, if it gives us more interior spaces that load quickly in the background under the animation time.

^^^Great idea; I hope they provide this capability in GTAV on consoles.

I think it'd be nice if they added something like Bethesda did for Skyrim. Give you a random high-poly object for you to play with. It could be accompanied with a tip of hint.

It is the GPU that can't handle the streaming of these textures. Also the lack of memory on these GPU's.

If ''texture pack'' was possible, you would've seen every developer using these things. But that's not how it works.

Gran Turismo 5 had a 25gb install on the ps3, but some of the content looked rubbish even on Standard Definition, you had to partition 10gb of the PS3 hard drive to install the premium model cars. i don't think something similar would work in an open world game, it'd look pretty stupid if some of the cars we're really detailed and others looked like they're from the 3 era.

and what's wrong with the loading screen? what on earth is 3 seconds worth?

Agreed.

Keep in mind too that the fancier they get, the more resources required to run the game, in this case, primarily disk space. If Max Payne 3 was already 25 GB, I cannot even imagine what GTA is going to be. Plus, seeing add Rockstar does minimal work to optimize their software, I'd rather them not waste time, money, and space on something like this. IMO, this is something trivial. smile.gif
