I want to take a taste of new mods which are only compatible with Patch 7 and wanted to play Multiplayer. So, I tried to install Patch 7. I remembered that I clicked TitleUpdate.msi to update my game. I clicked it but it hanged up with this kind of output:
user posted image

I tried to extract it via Universal Extractor but Copy Pasting didn't do much and I am worried that not all files are updated. I reinstalled the game, wanted to try again by shifting GTA 4 to another Directory but no sh*t. As far as I remember, there must a registry field so that the patch updates the game. If anyone is good in Registry Editing, please help:

Windows 7 Home Edition (x86)
Directory (Where GTA 4 is installed): C:\Users\Ram\Desktop\Ram Files\GTA Files\GTA 4 Files\Game\Grand Theft Auto IV

Thanks. smile.gif

It looks like that the uninstaller didn't remove the registry field of my previous Directory where I installed GTA 4.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but this extracted patch works 100% http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?on51nqo8i6xxanx

As for the installation issue, make sure you don't have any AV running with "PC protect" mode that may prevent the installer when accessing the registry. Even though, in your case this doesn't seem to be the problem.

To find the registry entry, look for "LaunchGTAIV.exe" in the registry, I'd share the path with you, but I don't have GTAIV installed in ages any more... still have SA installed, though tounge.gif

I'll guess here, but the key should be something like this
CODE
HOT_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV

I do have Patch 7, etc. But, I think it's safe to use Automatic Installer than Manual Copying-Pasting as it also configures settings automatically. So, I was wondering to fix that problem.

I usually do a weekly Registry cleaning. Maybe it deleted the registry of GTA 4 Directory and caused this bug. I will re-register it. Also, I will try to Turn off my other Anti-Viruses and see if they were also resulting this problem.

Thanks, mkey. smile.gif

No problem.

If the registry key was missing, patch installation wouldn't even start.
AFAIK the patch configures nothing, nor does it change any registry entries. I tested things thoroughly and the only thing it does, is extract and overwrite files. It possibly renames the launcher file, don't remember any more if it was patch 5 or 7 that did that.

Then why there are less files in Patch 7 than Patch 4?
Patch 4 takes more time to get applied and Patch 7 goes in seconds even if the size of the files are more. dozingoff.gif

Also, another question: I see GTA 4.exe (The one with Drunk Cam bug) properties where the version no. is written. well, if I have patched the game with Patch 4, it shows Version No. as 1.0.4.0. But the LaunchGTAIV.exe shows 1.0.0.0. I thought both the .exe are same and both should have been updated. Is this another R*'s laziness's job or is it a bug?

Sorry if you didn't understand some things. I am actually not good in phrases.

Are you quite sure the number of files in patch 7 is less then in patch 4? Are we only talking about game files? There are various patch installer files that get extracted from the update, as well.
Since these patches are supposed to be cumulative, that may mean R* decided to ditch some of the "fixes."

AFAIK LaunchGTAIV.exe should have it's version set as well. Have you tried using my manual update? That archive contains original R* files, so version information on the launcher must be as they set it.

It didn't have LaunchGTAIV.exe in it. I am wondering maybe the Auto Installer updates the LaunchGTAIV.exe. whatsthat.gif I really want to make the Installer run. Here's a screenshot of the Properties of LaunchGTAIV:

Does this problem happens to most of them? I just applied that patch once and now it doesn't works. Anyways, I don't think GTA 4 has got any Visual improvement after applying the Manual patch. Only some new options, etc.

Manual patch = regular patch, you can't see things that aren't there.
