World War 2: The Japanese Imperial Forces were standing their ground until death. Many where annihilated, but they at least took the invading Americans down with them. The Japanese Prime Minister Tōjō Hideki (1884–1948) ordered the creation of an underground reserve of special forces dubbed,"The Rising Sun Warriors". These men were all volunteers and were never drafted and were rewarded with government privileges.

Aftermath of World War 2: After suffering defeat, the special unit was exiled for 30 years after the government was angered at their defeat, so they took the punishment on them. During their time of exile and suffering from the betrayal of the government, they contacted the United Nations and NATO for potential recruitment into their Peacekeeping forces. They became the 1st Peacekeeping Battalion of the United Nations. Eventually, they died of old age, but their sons and daughters wanted to continue it for the honor of their family name.



In June 1992, the National Diet passed a UN Peacekeeping Cooperation Law which permitted the RSDF to participate in UN medical, refugee repatriation, logistical support, infrastructural reconstruction, election-monitoring, and policing operations under strictly limited conditions.

Because of this, the RSW merged back into the forces in which it was exiled from. They became the Rising Sun Defense Force. Though now they do less combat missions but still have specialized training in preparation for the worst case scenario.

In 2005, RSDF briefly deployed a humanitarian mission to Indonesia following the Tsunami.

In 2004, the Japanese government ordered a deployment of troops to Iraq at the behest of the United States: A contingent of the Japan Self-Defense Forces was sent in order to assist the U.S.-led Reconstruction of Iraq. This controversial deployment marked a significant turning point in Japan's history, as it is the first time since the end of World War II that Japan sent troops abroad except for a few minor UN peacekeeping deployments. Public opinion regarding this deployment was sharply divided, especially given that Japan's military is constitutionally structured as solely a self-defense force, and operating in Iraq seemed at best tenuously connected to that mission. The Koizumi administration, however, decided to send troops to respond to a request from the US. Even though they deployed with their weapons, because of constitutional restraints, the troops were protected by Japanese Special Forces troops and Australian units. The Japanese soldiers were there purely for humanitarian and reconstruction work, and were prohibited from opening fire on Iraqi insurgents unless they were fired on first. Japanese forces withdrew from Iraq in 2006.

In 2012, RSDF forces with the permission of the Prime Minister of Japan and the United Nations deployed forces into Liberty City to collect intel and to help allied forces out. Eventually they will build designated safe zones for civilians and keep them safe until the US Government can deal with the problem.
