To be honest, I hated the driving at first...it was so weird and slow but now I prefer this kind if driving instead of arcade driving...it just feels more stable and better in general for some reason | It's ok but it does lack on fun. You got to slow down for a turn while having cops chase you. That's not fun. SA had the most FUN driving. All they need to do is mix IV and SA driving to keep it fun and not a chore.

| QUOTE (Mainland Marauder @ Wednesday, Aug 8 2012, 03:01) | I don't look at Niko so much as moving sluggishly as much as simply not running at superhuman speeds. Even at starting ability levels, CJ was like Usain Bolt on super-steroids sprinting. Just can't get into the feeling of wanting III-style physics and so forth. I've been messing around lately on SA and it feels like what it is - last gen's best game ever.
The fighting system wasn't very good, but the game really didn't have you fighting melee very much. I'd like to see more of that, with a better system. SA provided a good foundation to build upon and bring into this decade. I like how throwing weapons worked much better. The way they flew in the last gen was pretty sloppy in comparison. And, of course, everyone falls and dies the exact same way. This new engine really is something else. It's got its kinks to be worked out, but it seems like with every release it gets better.
Maybe this is the reason why it's taking a bit long. Would you rather have it finished or would you rather have it rushed out so it'll be here in October? I know I'll probably still be around here next year if that's what it takes. | You felt like a 300 LB man while you walked. RDR fixed it so it was a little better. Felt more real in RDR.

You felt like a 300 LB man while you walked. RDR fixed it so it was a little better. Felt more real in RDR. | Sure, after playing with CJ it felt like that. But Niko was designed to be more like a normal human being instead of an over-the-top physical freak. I think a big part of the reason was to bring the scale of Liberty City much more on the level of the real NYC. You should not be able to run halfway across any major modern metropolis in two minutes. If you can, it really kills that sense of scale. Most of his movements needed a bit more speed and I do agree it got perfected in RDR. Though Marston was a hell of a video game athlete for a 38-year-old carrying all those guns and other stuff.

| QUOTE (Miamivicecity @ Tuesday, Aug 7 2012, 21:15) | | It has minor realistic touches like how tyres explode from doing burnouts, being able to shut down car engines etc, but you can survive jumping from buildings without breaking bones. | And yet injuries from falls were still more "real" than in SA. When I was goofing around in SA the other day I actually took a Hydra, flew it over Vinewood around the Interglobal Studios and bailed at near max height. Opened the parachute as still as I could, and then hit Triangle again (PS2) to bail from the parachute. CJ remained in an upright, still position, heading straight down for the ground. Loooooooong drop where he.......lands on his feet and loses all but a sliver of his maxed-out health. He survived, and I was beyond shocked. Credit where it's due, I still see new things out of that game almost eight years after the fact. (I don't have pics or video, so anyone who doesn't believe me can either do so or try it out for themselves.)

I bet GTA V will be like GTA IV, everything recycled, same cars, same car engines, same way as Niko Bellic crashes heavily and flies out of the windscreen, same way as Niko Bellic opens doors, same guns, same gunfire noise, same fast food restarunts and eating to replenish health. I don't care anyway.

| QUOTE (Crimson Flam3s @ Wednesday, Aug 8 2012, 00:42) | I notice many people are now too much into having the game being as realistic as possible, without really thinking that it's about having a balance between fun and realism. Saints Rows has gone the fun way but IMO they over did it, gta 4 went for the realistic way and although the game is fun and well structured I feel that it lost that special touch it had like in san andreas.
In order to avoid this, the game has to be balanced in gameplay aspects and physics. RAGE it's awesome and all that however I think that you should still be able to do cool stuff and not make your character all clumsy and slow like in gta 4, and the incorporation of money plus customization will make things really fun.
My point is that I feel that many people are too much into the realism, in a GAME, like I see posts of someone suggesting something and then someone else it's like "but thats not realistic" ..... I wonder, If gta iv hadn't gone the realistic way or it the realism was toned down to a level were it was pretty balanced with fun, what would you guys think about this subject? |
I think many people are now too much into having the game be unrealistic. Mostly because they sucked at GTA IV, so now they want Rockstar to take a step backwards with the series.

| QUOTE (Miamivicecity @ Wednesday, Aug 8 2012, 03:15) | I've said it before and I'll say it again I don't consider GTA IV "realistic" as such. However it comes across as more believable as in I could picture Niko doing a large of the things he done than CJ for example.
Sorry, but it's an immersion killer IMO when you get some poor gang banger from the ghetto flying jetpacks and basically being a spy for hire. The reason I like GTA IV is I can elevate myself into Niko's shoes.
Anyway it has minor realistic touches like how tyres explode from doing burnouts, being able to shut down car engines etc, but you can survive jumping from buildings without breaking bones.
If GTA IV was truly realistic it would be a pain in the ass. It's just a much more focussed game that's all. Not exactly a life simulator. | Do you like GTA for it's story or gameplay??? Both are good but gameplay keeps the replay value higher than the story. What do you play GTA more for???

| QUOTE (abrownboy15 @ Wednesday, Aug 8 2012, 01:53) | GTA IV had a perfect balance of fun and realism in my opinion Although a god mode or unlimited ammo mode would of made it a bit more fun | God mode would have been great and unlimited ammo too. There was a place, I think where you take out a lawyer that had a couple of entrances that you can wage an epic fire fight. It gets smoky in there, I can only imagine what would happen with invincibility and not having to reload. I could get the cell phone into play if I was quick about it. There was another place that was by the Rasta pool hall. On foot outside of the pool hall turn left and around the corner is a building you can duck into that the cops will not go in. They go into the building next to it and at times another building on the roof around back. The fire fights in this area are so epic that after a while the helicopters stop coming. There's good cover and time to hit up the phone for more lead to throw. It all takes place on the roofs. You can duck back down the stairs to regain your health. It is great to hear the cops talking about losing you again. For me it all started with GTA III. When I played GTA IV, I recognized a lot of the places and things that were in Liberty City before. Just re-imagined. I am way biased. What they improved on but kept the feel of in IV from III, they will most likely do with GTA 5. Re-imagine San Andreas. But I think they got the feet wet with GTA IV, then went full bore on what can be imagined with Red Dead Redemption, what directions players may take and like with LA Niore. With all that in mind, I like to think that they will take ques from all and make one epic game. It would be nice though if they could toss us a little GTA 5 in terms of DLC for GTA IV. Nothing wrong with a little appetizer before the main course.

God, if they go backwards in this area, it will turn me right off. The driving is were it needs to be, the only thing to fix is body roll.
