Shooting would go too far. But actually hitting some fleeing pedestrian without getting a wanted level would be a good thing. I can also imagine having a similar reputation system like in RDR. For example when you help a cop arresting some punk you get not only some cash but also some good citizen reputation. At some point you wouldn't get arrested for hitting some man in the streets with a cop around or your loss of money due to an arrest is decreased by a certain percentage. You could maybe bribe cops to arrest unwanted individuals.

On the other hand, killing cops and being bad in general would give you bad reputation which could result into either cops being more aggressive or intimidated.

Yeah because if I can't do anything, the criminal might kill my uncle Ben.

I mean let's be real if you come across a shootout in real life and you decide to hop in and start poppin' off shots you're probably not going to be given a medal for it. In most cases, the cops would be pretty shocked and maybe even pissed. Of course there's also a chance you'll save an officer's life and become a hero, so it can go both ways.

I'd like to see it come back in a very carefully controlled manner, i.e., hover crosshairs over a police officer and click L3, and you're good to go as long as you only fight people who are posing a direct threat to the officer.

In GTA you steal and kill. The cops hate you because you're a piece of sh!t in their eyes. Helping cops just doesn't make sense in GTA.

Unless...

If anything, you should get a bad rep for helping cops. So maybe cops will thank you and give you money, but criminals hate you, because you're playing for the other team. Certain criminal side missions won't be available anymore until you get your criminal rep back up, but maybe you can do more work for the police.

Whenever a cops in a shootout with some bad guys, and you shoot the bad guys. They not only shoot back, but the cops shoot you and you get a wanted level. I think it'd be cool if you come across shootouts that if you decide to help the cops, they don't shoot at you but actually reward you with money or something at the end of it?

smile.gif

If i can't remember clearly, GTA: Vice city had one long time ago. I would like to see that in GTAV and a great idea as well. icon14.gif

GTA VCS had it, When you shoot the person the cops were after you would get a $50 Good Citizen reward.

Edit: The Person Above me has more info.

Maybe because hit a criminal was good until the 80's but now it's bad nowadays (which is true and pathetic...)? Think about it...

Criminals are still capable of good deeds. If a cop(or anyone) is under attack, you are allowed to assist them using the same amount of force that the person under attack is allowed to use to overcome the threat.

It sucked trying to do police missions in gta 4, coming up to a gang firing at you. The police would come to your aid, but once you returned fire they would start shooting you. Horrible flaw.

Good thinking, this was very annoying when you got attacked and couldn't shoot back without the police shooting you

Yeah!

You go first.

Actually they were Vigilante missions, vigilantes are illegal that's why they shot you. It wouldn't be vigilante missions if you were just like a cop.
Helping cops should just be pushing a criminal down or defending a person that's trying to hurt someone. But if you shoot them the cops should try to arrest you.

a fairly simple system would make this possible.

when an NPC attacks somone (including the player) with less-lethal force, damages property or runs from a police officer they will appear as an orange marker on your map, this allows you to use less-lethal force (bare hands, pepper spray, nightstick, tazer, etc...) to incapacitate/ repel them without getting a wanted level.

when an NPC attacks somone (including the player) with lethal force they will appear as a red marker on your map, this allows you to use lethal force in order to incapacitate or kill them without getting a wanted level.

when you help a police officer using the appropriate level of force, less-lethal force against those marked in orange and either less-lethal or lethal force against those marked in red, you will be thanked by the police and gain honor.

not if you shoot someone in self-defense, or to protect others.

well vice city kinda had the same thing, if you helped a cop by using melee, you got 50 bucks (or was it 500? )

though if you used guns, you would get shot at by the cops.
