Around 10:30 this morning a gunman shot up a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, south of Milwaukee. As of now there are six confirmed dead, no word on how many were injured. The gunman was killed, too.

Hey, this event really sucks and I wish it didn't happen and I wonder why the guy did it, but can we just like, not put every shooting, beating, scandal, and abuse story up here where people will just go "omg my condolences RIP" for about 2-3 pages and then it goes away?

Otherwise, tell you what, I just found some nice little stories about how a kid saved a bus after the driver died and the son of the Eagles' coach was found dead. Those sound like something Gen Chat would love to commune about.

I don't know, but Milwaukee has certainly had its share of visitors. French missionaries and explorers were going there as early as the late 1600s to trade with the Native Americans. In fact, Milwaukee is an Indian name, actually it's pronounced "mee-lee-wah-kay," which is Algonquin for "The Good Land". If we did what you say we do we'd have new content filling the first five pages, we only get news topics like twice a week at most, if we didn't post any news topics genchat would be full of topics that either should have been posted in the "Have a Question topic" and were locked because of it, or the same threads that have been here forever.

Hell, that's not unlikely. CNN stated that it's a white guy in his 40s, and this may be considered an act of domestic terrorism. And a few days after 9/11, a Sikh in Arizona was murdered by some dumbass out for revenge who assumed he was a Muslim. Honestly, if we find out that the shooter in the one in Wisconsin was doing the same thing, I'm gonna start losing hope that not every American is an ignoramus like the stereotypes say we are.

It sounds like from what I've read so far, that a bigot/xenophobe murdered members of one of the more tolerant religions in their holy sanctuary. Sounds like something from one of the Crusades. They would go mass killing sprees of men, women, and children. The Albigensian Crusades stand out in my mind. I think it was three million killed. The worst side of human nature.

But to be serious here, it was actually in Oak Creek, a small little town near the lake in Milwaukee County. It's amazing to think I used to live right near where it happened, and spent time at the bowling alley they evacuated to. I heard some rumors going around that the target of the Temple was actually incorrect. There is a Muslim Mosque about 2 miles away from their, so I wouldn't be surprised if he missed his target.

Still, it's really f*cked up, and a real shocker around here as usually Wisco is pretty quiet when it comes to National Tragedies.

I hope you're not accusing me of being a racist, I have not one intolerant bone in my body, and every single Muslim I've met has been a decent person. Perhaps I should have made it clearer that innocent Sikhs may have been targeted by a dumb hick who had some wack job view that a) all Muslims are terrorists and responsible for 9/11 and b) turban = Muslim.
