Would you rather live in the city or the country?

Having lived in Chicago my entire life, I'd say I definitely prefer living in the city. It's just what I'm used to and what I'm comfortable with. I don't even like suburbs that much, let alone countryside! Some countryside is nice, but I could never live out there.

City, beyond a shadow of a doubt. I will never understand the love people have for these quaint, rural areas. A city is a symbol of human endeavour and success, a symbol of growth and progress. Rural life has always appeared crude and backwards to me, something to pity, not aspire to.
Cities are beautiful reminders of our capacity for greatness. It's a shame that in my country we idolise the pitiable countryside aesthetic so much.

I live in a small town that is very much countryside, but literally 3 miles away, is a town which looks like a city and has shopping centers and supermarkets so it is not too far to get everyday things. In fact, there's a Tesco in the same town that I live in so I have all the views of a countryside, yet I have a small town/city nearby.

Manchester town center is only about 20 minutes away on the train so I am rather close to the main city aswell.

If I had to choose though, it would most likely be the city as I would be nearer to bars, resteraunts and I love the city atmosphere in general.

Can I buy some unidentifiable foreign takeaway at 5 in the morning, after a cheap spirit fuelled night listening to house music turned up to 11 surrounded by strangers, in the country? No? Count me out.

I would rather live in a city. The country gets boring way too fast and its little interaction with anyone and almost no places to go and the only advantages it has is the senery. The only thing i hate about the city is the traffic and the rude attitudes of people but other then that, it has everything i need.

Really? I can't say that's something I come across on a daily basis. I don't think people are rude, or nobody's ever bothered me at least. I know what you mean about traffic though. Sometimes it can be a pain, especially during rush hour or if there's an accident and everyone slows down.

Heh, the place I live is slightly odd.

It's a small village, and at one side is a road going along a brook which leads to a dual carriage way which then leads to city areas (they aren't even far, there's one of those 'city centre' things that has a Lidl, McDonalds, Homebase, PC World, Morrisons etc, literally 5-10 mins range) and then on the other side is the rural country roads with a path that useful for walking the dog (also 5-10 mins range)

Along one of the path areas is a huge hill that overlooks the city area, so that's cool to go past when walking the dogs.

There's an old train station along the path aswell.

I've got the best of both smile.gif

Also, right next to my house, like, literally. 1 minute walk maximum, there is a cricket field, tennis club thing, a church, and a primary school.

Annoys me when I got the day off, then go downstairs to get some orange juice whilst wearing my boxers (i'm a lazy f*ck i know) then there's 5 kids looking across the street though the kitchen window amazed at the outside world.
I don't blame them.

The city for sure, I live in a suburban area right now outside of a fast growing city and we're just now starting to get stores and restaurants out this way so we don't have to drive 10 miles into the city. It's f*cking annoying taking long road trips just to pick up the odd thing here and there, although sometimes it can be good for clearing your head I guess. I remember when I was in college everything you needed was just a walking distance away on campus, it was really convenient plus all that walking helps keep your fat ass in shape

I'd rather live in the city, because in cities there's actual internet signals and actual shopping centers.

The city. It's a personal ambition of mine to live in the centre of a place as vibrant and exciting as a large city - I'd like to live and work in London. This may appear naive for any residents, but truthfully, the rapid pace and social idea I have concerning cities is a huge draw for me. When travelling through them, I feel somewhat mesmerised just observing the diversity of people milling in the streets and avenues; that must be down to living in a small, leafy town.

Living in the suburbs, I've gotten the chance to live in a fairly rural area within a small but developed town. As a result, I never really liked the country OR cities, and I especially hate big cities like New York City.

However, after living in Prague for a semester, I fell in absolute love with the place and I wouldn't mind living there for the rest of my life, so if you ask me "city or country," it depends on which city and which countryside. I'd hate to live in NYC or Los Angeles but I'd love to live in San Francisco or Prague.

I like the countryside (where my grandparents live(d)) because it has a better climate for the most part and much better landscape. The place I'd like to move to isn't really isolated, there's a small city nearby actually. I would live in that city or in the surroundings, I just love the countryside there as I visited that place many times growing up.

However, I would have to say that I feel tied in to the place I live right now and grew up in. I just can't imagine moving away and never coming back (I don't have any relatives that live where I live).

I live in the countryside and go to school in the nearest city. Everyone there is a complete c*nt who thinks anyone who lives in the country is somewhat below them socially, when they live on sh*tty industrial estates themselves with parents who have sh*t jobs. They think anyone who lives in the countryside is a farmer, so they clearly don't understand the importance of agriculture to their own lives and the fact they laugh at someone being a farmer makes me think they should all be shot. I'm not going to ramble on about the importance of agriculture, because it would be boring and everyone should know that basic foods such as bread are made by farmers, without them, the city people would be sh*tting themselves and then moaning at the farmers about how sh*t they are, because they are complete c*nts. Much prefer the countryside, may be a popular target for gypsies who steal things from the nearest storage area but it's generally a nicer place to live in for me.

I currently live in a medium-sized town in a very rural area. In that sense, we get the best of both worlds. I've always lived in the countryside aside from time at uni and early in my working life, but I'm equally happy either way as long as one is not all-consuming and I can escape to the other.
