Hey everyone,

I've got a problem with GTA IV. This applies to both GTA IV and EFLC, which is the same error for both.

Anyway, I get the following error when I try to launch the game:

Exception EFCreateError in module DSOUND.dll at 000116C5. Cannot create file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\asilog.txt". Access is denied.

I read that the problem to fix this is to uncheck read-only/run the game as admin. I tried unchecking the read only box under properties, and I get a pop up saying : You will need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes. Click Continue to complete this operation.

I Click continue, with the little badge icon. It then sets all folders as non-read only. I go back, and it reset itself to read only again, as if it doesn't save the settings.

I tried to run the game as Admin, but there is no icon/option to do that when I right click.

All my games used to work, but after I had to reinstall windows a few days ago, I had to reactivate the games, and now I have this strange problem. I'm on an admin account also. I'm using Windows 7 64 - bit. This is a legit copy of the game I bought off of Gamestop.com.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

-Nick

Hello Nick. If I understand correctly, you have a problem with permissions which is not actually GTAIV related. Are you using any extra applications that modify file system permissions?
Try creating a new admin account. You can also look here for an example on how to take ownership of a folder http://forum.thewindowsclub.com/windows-ti...rs-windows.html

Hi, thanks for the response.

I'm not using any extra applications that I know of.

I'll take a look at the link you gave me.

Edit: It didn't work.

So should I try making a new admin account?

In which manner it did not work? You should be more descriptive, was there any part of the guide you couldn't complete?

Try creating a new account, yes.

I fixed it. I brought it to the shop and it's all set.

Thanks anyway.
