| QUOTE (Mikey_Navaja @ Saturday, Aug 4 2012, 09:40) | Saints row 3 was a real disappointment for me. Maybe if i hadn't played SR2 before i played it, i would have thought it was ok but no. The city is boring. customization is scaled back. and you can't even replay missions again. Not to mention I didn't find anything funny about the humor.
Epic fail. I don't think I'll even bother with SR4 |
This SR2 had a pretty good balance between fun and seriousness but SRTT forgot its roots and turned into some anime like game. I mean, rapidly teleporting high voltage girls, brutes, going inside computer world as toilet seat? The repetitive side jobs given as missions was a huge pain in the neck. Also, the entire city felt the same everywhere with purple and red tint. They did all this to cut back the great customisation of SR2. OT: I played it a little while after launch. GTA news was still fresh. So, GTA V didn't have anything to do with it. I played it because of some great elements from SR2. Ended up disappointed. Not touching it again. I'm looking forward to Sleeping Dogs now though. This post has been edited by Gtaplayaminigun on Saturday, Aug 4 2012, 06:18

I bought SR3, played til the end, and I don't regret it. I also bought Mafia 2, but I'm still in the beginning again.
As the comparision can't be avoided because of the "sandbox" stuff, yes, I'm planning on having Sleeping Dogs, Watch Dogs (LOLWUT?) and Assassins Creed, but not because of GTA5 long wait.
If for some miracle Rockstar anounced GTA5 for next month, I'd save my coins to have both GTA5 and SD at the same time.

I rented Saints Row The Third. It got old quick. There's no point in bothering with the story if you can just unlock Respect and vehicles with cheats. The city was just AWFUL. It was brown and grey EVERYWHERE. People said GTA IV was gray? HAHAHAHA
Saints Row 2 had a more lively and diverse city; trailer park, marina, a "times square", a school campus, etc. SR3 was basically a bunch of warehouses and industrial facilities.
Aw, hell, I'll just grade the three games.
Best City: GTA IV Best Weapons: Saints Row 2 Best Story: GTA IV Best Vehicles: Tie (More vehicles in SR2, but more durable and fun to drive in GTA IV Most Brown and Grey: Saints Row 3 Best Pedestrians: GTA IV Best Customization: Saints Row 2 Best Radio/Music: GTA IV Best Cheats: Saints Row 2
Best Overall: GTA IV Very Honorable Mention: Saints Row 2 sh*t: Saints Row 3
As you can see, there's no need for fanboyism, both series do many things great and actually complement each other pretty well.

I wish IV was more like TBOGT. It had more fun. | That's subjective. Let's disect how it differs from GTA IV. WeaponsSuper Punch > Punch .44 > Glock Sticky Bombs > Grenades M4 > Advanced MG Golden Uzi = SMG Story.GTA IV - Niko Bellic comes to America to live it up with his rich cousin, but gets tangled up with the dregs of society. He reveals he's looking for Darko Brevic because he killed his close friends. Because Niko has killed many people in the war, including civilians (50 children lined up against the church wall with their throats cut and hands chopped off) it's not a stretch that he's willing to kill the innocent. He feels sorry for Roman's business and home so he starts taking jobs from well-known gangsters that pay well. Eventually Roman is able to buy a nice condo in Algonquin using Niko's income. Eventually he discovers Florian Cravic is innocent and gets help from a Government employee to track him down in exchange for taking down terrorists. While he waits, the McReary family introduces him to the Pegorinos who pay him good money. However, Jimmy asks Niko to make a deal with Dimitri, a former associate who ruined Niko and Roman's lives. He has to come to a moral decision of whether or not to work with him and risk being killed, or taking his revenge to close the book on his life of crime. Eventually Niko confronts Darko and must decide if he wants to kill him to get rid of his hatred or to prove to everyone he's willing to settle into a normal life by sparing him. The ending is too diverse to get into. TBOGT - Luis Lopez is a well-off night club manager at Maisonette 9 and Hercules. His boss is Gay Tony, a man who was once at the top of the pile in Liberty City fame and wealth. He has since fallen to a pathetic druggie, heavily in debt, and hangs around with the wrong crowd. Luis finds out Tony is heavily in-debt to the Ancelotti crime family and Luis is the only one able to fulfill the tasks necessary to help pay off those loans. Eventually, some Russian mercenaries called Bulgarin and Timur, look to invest in Luis' "potential as a businessman", but only use him to pull off some assassinations and dirty jobs. Eventually, to pay off his debt, Tony resorts to buying some diamonds from a chef on the Platypus. The diamonds are soon stolen and retrieved from the Libertonian museum. Bulgarin later finds out that Luis bought "his" stolen diamonds and tries to have him killed. Luis and Tony decide it would be killing two birds with one stone, by using them as payment for Gracie Ancelotti's return, and by doing so, they hoped Bulgarin wouldn't be able to find them. The Ancelottis are outraged that Gracie was kidnapped and want Tony to pay with his life. Luis spares Tony from death, but the clubs are closed and Tony is out of money. Eventually, Luis and Tony find out that Bulgarin is leaving the country, and will most likely return with more goons to kill Luis and his circle of friends and family. Luis manages to kill Timur at a drug deal, and narrowly escapes death by blowing up a plane with Bulgarin in it. Yusif comes to aid Tony and Luis and helps finance their clubs to have them re-opened. With the Russians and Ancelottis off of their backs, the trio are free to make money and rise to the top of the nightlife crowd again. Characters. I'll take the main 4 from each. GTA IVNiko Bellic, a man with a past, present and future. Has good reason for revenge and money. Roman Bellic. Niko's overweight and cowardly cousin. Has some funny moments when bad things happen to him. Packie McReary. A good friend and ally to Niko. Likes to have fun. Dimitri Rascalov. A treacherous snake who will do anything for power. TBOGTLuis is an whiny hypocrite. Serves as a lacky for Tony's business interests. Yusif is love/hate. I hate him. Tony is funny, but he can be a real downer too. Bulgarin and Timur. Stereotypical Russians, move along. Radio RamJam FM > Tuff Gong The Journey > Self Actualization FM Vice City FM > Fusion FM VehiclesSuper GT > F620 Caddy > Faggio Buffalo = FIB Buffalo (You can do police missions in the FIB Buffalo, but you get more colors for the normal Buffalo) Bullet GT > Infernus Buzzard > Annihilator OVERALLWeapons: TBOGT Story: GTA IV Characters: GTA IV Radio: Tie (Not enough music/stations for a proper comparsion) Vehicles: TBOGT TIE They both complement the flaws of the other.
