Like many people out there, I am having problems with playing GTA IV decently.

Version of the game is 1.0.7.0 and it has not been modified in any way.

My system specs are:
Asus X53S
Intel Core i7 2670QM 2.2 GHz
Nvidia Geforce 610m 2GB
4GB RAM
Windows 7 Premium

I've literally tried every trick in the book, I have:
- commandline.txt with the -memrestrict 629145600
- set CPU priority to high
- all drivers are up to date

I play at 1366 x 768 and have let the game decide all the settings for me, wich is everything set at high.
Only time it wasn't lagging was with all settings at medium, but it still is far from perfect.

It will probably run smoothly at 1280X720 and everything at low, but it's just plain wrong that way!

Does anyone know what I should do?

There's not much you can do, as that GeForce 610M is not a gaming card I believe.
Sorry to say that, but that laptop of yours is far from a gaming laptop turn.gif

What Exxon said. 610M would probably struggle to run Solitaire or Minesweeper at highest settings. wink.gif

610M? That will only run low settings im afraid. Even the desktop version of the card wouldn't be enough to run San Andreas maxed out at that resolution with a solid 60fps. Turn shadows to Low and turf night shadows off. Toggle with different settings and see how you get on. But even at minimum settings don't expect a 50+fps count.

You should run it with shadows turned off and rest low and view/detail distance/car density sliders on <25. Would be playable then i guess, since your cpu is good and gta4 is very cpu dependant as well.

Thats probably one of worst laptop configuration ever i think. Top class cpu and low class gpu bottlenecking it bad on almoust any game.

Ok, well,I didn't buy it solely as a gaming rig, but I did expect something better with the i7 core.

Anyway, thanks for your answers, I'll try those shadow settings later today.

CPU isn't everything, and that's what people seem to forget quite often.

your settings are too high!!!
Nvidia Geforce 610m 2GB have 48 shader cores like GT 220 or 9600gso
Graphics Settings
Texture Quality: low
Shadow Quality: low
Reflection Resolution: off
Water Quality: low
Texture Filter Quality: Anisotropic x4
Night Shadows: Off
View Distance: 25
Detail Distance: 31
Vehicles: 1
