I don't think that V could surpass San Andreas in greatness no matter how good it is for me.

I mean, San Andreas came at a great time in my life and will always have that nostalgia angle. Since then, 8 years have passed in the video game world (and expectations have rose dramatically), I'm quite a bit older than I was, video games in general don't tend to impress me as much as they did, and I found IV to be a pretty big disappointment.

Anyone else feel this way? I probably shouldn't be on this forum if I have such a dreary outlook

It is sad but, I agree with you. GTA:SA hit a soft spot that no game did before or will do later.

I know it is just a game but damn it, I loved it and it loved me!

Ok, I just enjoyed my time playing for the sake of playing in GTA:SA

For me it will definitely go above SA depending on features and city and story, I didn't really dislike IV but I think V is going to jump the scale, much higher than SA and in a new engine.

Yeah I guess it's not even that much of a bad thing. I just feel lucky enough to have played SA when it came out and I'm not sure any GTA game will ever top it for me personally, so even if V is a really good game that will be OK with me. It doesn't have to top San Andreas for me to enjoy it.

I have played the earlier GTAs before I had ever played San Andreas. San Andreas just didn't cut it for me. Just it's style I did not care for. I loved Vice City though. This new game will definitely be much better than the old San Andreas.

I hope that you're wrong, because San Andreas was one of the greatest times I've ever had with a video game. I'd like to think that I can have that kind of amazing fun again.

Before you lose all hope, imagine what the hydra will be like on the RAGE engine. Imagine what the new casinos and new activities will be like. Last of all, picture the story. I wouldn't worry about V.

Nothing captured that feeling for me since and nothing ever will.

I guess its the times of our lives these games came along and various other factors that give us these feelings.

The 90s setting is what keeps San Andreas at the top, in my opinion. It's a shame that V is still set in the present.

Indeed. Sometimes it's hard to separate the quality of games from our personal lives and our state of mind when we were playing them. Your mood is going to affect your level of enjoyment of the game, regardless of how good that game is.

for me, san andreas was great but for its time , now i cant stand to play it after gta iv .
thats not to say its any better but there are so many advancements to gta iv
ive played almost all the gta series each one has been a great experience at the time of first playing them when they was released.
im now ready to be wowed by GTA V.
im the wrong side of 35 now and its not all about graphics or engine or all that fancy stuff, the fact we couldnt drive truck and trailers or fly planes or mod cars without Mods in program in IV was a great dissapointment. but it was a great atmoshphere and really liked niko, even if he was a downer sometimes.

SA was great im not trying to compare , altho it may look like it, its just all part and parcel of the series and i hope R* have learnt alot over the past years and now we will get GTA V the way GTA is meant to be.

RaceCar is right man, this game will be just as great as SA was.

I mean this game is taking what SA and IV did the best and combining them, plus adding new stuff as well, once we get this game, I think we will all be blown away by it, all we can do for now is wait and see though.

Just to be clear with the intent of this thread, I'm not trying to tell anyone not to enjoy this game and lots of you, hell probably most of you will prefer it to San Andreas. I'm certainly not saying San Andreas > V, I'm only speaking for myself here and saying that I'm not in the place I once was where I feel that V could become my favorite game of all time. But I'll definitely keep an open mind and it'll still be a day one purchase.
