Well well gentlemen lets stop fighting and get back on topic shall we?
I make it clear that no comments must be aimed at any user.
You can refute but no flaming AND no talking about gameplay without playing the game talk about anything but gameplay if you haven't played it. because gameplay while playing and watching differs

Silent Hill 2-
A genre defining horror game. The game sets a standard for horror games and has a great cast of characters. Epic storyline and is available on Playstation 2, Xbox, Windows, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The game has moments that will scare you crazy, like in the apartment level when your room is dark or in the catacolmbs under the old buried prison. Also not to mention pyramid head.
The game is special because you will remember it and the story, and the ending is very strong.
I will add more later. Been up all night, very tired.
Silent Hill 2 is the most atmospheric game of all time. Every second of this game was tearing and emotional. The sounds and fog, the slow ticking of an enemy down the hollwas. It made me feel down, depressed and guild-ridden. Fun, fun, fun!
SH2 is probably also the most physiological game of all time, dealing with mental issues such as guilt, depression, suicide, rape, incest, hate, love, sociopaths, domestic abuse etc. The list goes on. I could write tons about the symbolism and themes of Silent Hill 2.
Now, before I say anything about Portal 2, I'd like to just say why Portal is such a fantastic series. The original game Portal was perhaps one of the best games ever made for a plethora of reasons such as, the amazing antagonist, fantastic puzzles and amazingly fun gameplay, an interesting and diverse world to explore and perhaps one of the best video game weapons ever made. The Portal Gun.
What makes Portal 2 better you might be asking yourself, it's got a pretty tough show to follow up. Well everything, Portal 2 improves and expands on every idea thought of in the original such as adding great characters with astonishingly good voice actors to make the world feel busy and alive, Stephen Merchant shows himself to be absolutely hilarious and fantastically amazing - this theme contiues with all of Portal 2's characters and sticks right through to the end of the game.
Portal 2 also boasts a wide of variety of gameplay improvements such as holographic bridges that you've got to angle correctly in order to pass endlessly deep chasms and lakes filled with strange acid. It also however adds onto the already great existing technology in the world by adding things like boots ....
...and panels...
..with crushers.
Now new technologies aside Portal 2 also does an absolutely brilliant job of integrating perhaps the most missed thing from Portal. Multiplayer, with robots. Now I don't believe I haver ever had such a fun time staring at walls with freinds trying to figure out how not to get smashed into tiny little pieces.
Portal 2 boast worldwide fan and critical acclaim, and has received an immensely positive reactions from nearly all major games reviewers, makers, players - everyone really, because it's just so difficult to not like a game that posseses an interesting story, an amazing villans, characters that'll make you geneually laugh and the most delicous gameplay I've ever had the plesure to taste.
This game shouldn't need to be on the list of games you should play before you die, as you've probably stopped reading this and run off to either buy or play it and if you havent, DO IT ALREADY !. Portal 2 is in a few words a masterpiece of gaming that shows people that you don't have to shoot a single bullet to have fun.

Strange no one seems Baldurs Gate Saga a MUST.
I was gonna add baldur's Gate 2 to the list, but I found it difficult to write down why this game is so great.
But now the discussion part is out of the window I can just add Baldur's Gate 2 because it's awesome. And if you counter that or ask why I think that's so, I'll tell you to f*ck off cause you haven't played the game and you don't know sh*t and I'm f*cking cool.
@Fireman - These were my thoughts, but the topic is kind of subjective anyway. I mean obviously not everyone needs to play any of these, and some of the examples given are ridiculous, but there will always be bias with topics like these.
-Any Sims game (Of the main series) - You have to actually play one of these before criticizing players for playing a life while avoiding real life, people who don't really irk me.
-Minecraft/Roblox - Similar, but for creation games.
-Super Mario World, Sonic 2, and Ninja Gaiden - Classic platformers are referenced all the time, plus all three of these are great games to pass the time with.
- GTA: SA - If you're on this forum and can't come up with a bajillion reasons to play this you've done something wrong.
-Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon - Similar to the sims, except because events coincide with real life days (ironically never played harvest moon, but I'm pretty sure it works like that) these games will suck your time away if you let them, also helps people understand things like farmville better.
-LSD: Dream Emulator - It's a journey into fear itself, the game makes you think irrationally and become scared of things you'd usually think would be funny to be scared of, also the general atmosphere of the game is incredible.

I realized that this wouldn't get anywhere unless we had rules instead of just discussing blindly. This is now a nomination topic and we will suggest games for the list here. After that, I'll open a poll and we will vote, according to that we will arrange the list. I'll add a lot of information into the main post. So now everything is cool, the discussion remains meaningful due to the reason of nominations. Currently the games suggested are - Manhunt Silent Hill 2 Dark Souls Uncharted 2 The World dies with you Gears of War Anno Dawn of Discovery Crysis Baldurs Gate Saga Gta San Andreas Super mario 2 Ninja Gaiden Minecraft Animal crossing Moon Harvest LSD Dream emulator Roblox
Tell me if I missed some.
Suggest some more games quickly! The poll will be made in exactly one week. So the nominations close on thursday 3:32 pm.

Yossarianite: I think we should split this up into rounds so that we get a better idea for what games people prefer, say about 5 each.
Shadow of the Colossus (2005)
There is a question that is often asked by critics: Can games be art? Often, the answer is no as they are seen as ugly and uncouth. If there is one game that breaks that stereotype, its Shadow of the Colossus, a truly breathtaking game which will leave you in awe. The plot of the game is this: a boy takes his dead girlfriend/sister/friend/whatever to an ancient god in a forbidden land. He has to defeat 16 colossi in return for her to be resurrected. The plot is all up to the player's interpretation; the game leaves basic ideas and let the player figure out most of the plot for themselves, interpretating it as they like.
Gameplay is very minimalistic. What you do is you ride your noble stead, Agro, to where the colossus is and then you use your wits to defeat them. That's it. There are no other characters or places to visit or side quests. Nothing. What this does is create a truly haunting atmosphere, like this really is a forbidden land and emphasize the main character's loneliness. This is also creates a dual gameplay where half the game is quiet and contemplative while you ride your hourse and the other is loud and exciting when you fight the colossi and that's good, it creates a really nice contrast. Of course, then you have the boss fights. The colossi feel like massive, lumbering beasts and you have to climb all over their bodies like a flea searching for their weak spot while they try as hard as they might to fling you off. Its really invigorating.
In short, this game is art. I cannot count the times its landed at the top of any best PS2 games list. Definitely give this one a shot.
Super Mario 64 (1996)
Super Mario 64 is one of those games that comes along every once in a while and revolutionizes how a genre works. 64 managed to convert the entire series to 3D and paved the way for the 3D platformer craze of the late 90s. It had an intuitive camera system that almost everyone copied.

@Aceray Yep, thats a good idea, lets try it. Any suggestions for the duration of each round and the number of rounds?
Depends how long you want it to go for. If you want to get it done in about a fortnight by doing about 5 each and get some general results about what most think is the most "Must Play" game out there or you could be more precise by duelling it out with two games each, randomly generated or by genre. I'm gonna PM some people to contribute so it doesn't become "AceRay's Must Play games." Maybe limiting number of games one person can vote for?
Civilization II (1996)
Sid Meier is well known for his highly acclaimed strategy games and in my opinion, Civilization 2 was his best. It expanded greatly on the original while adding many new interesting civilizations and play styles, its always fun to make friend and enemies with, plus the tactical strategies needed to prevail definitely adds to the fun. It also answered all those questions that nobody asked for like "What would happen if the Sioux invaded Germany with tanks and planes?" or "What if Russia and Egypt allied and declared war on India?" Great game.

Driver 3 follows the sequel of Driver 1, and of course 2. Now, Tanner finally gets his grip on the location of his arch-enemy and long driven, Jericho. The game's introduction is awesome, with a shoot-out in Istanbul and ends on a cliffhanger. The cut-scene changes and it's a few months earlier; Tanner absolutely powering down Miami, South Beach in his Mustang.
Tanner, an undercover cop, attempts to level with known criminals in Miami to succeed in finding Jericho. If your familiar with the Driver series, Tanners old rival was 'Caine' who eventually hired a bodyguard/hitman named Jericho. Of course, now, Tanner isn't falling to his knees this easy; not even the man who he once protected. It is every man for himself.
Driver 3 follows the same open world experience as Grand Theft Auto but seeks more story based detail. The game takes you across three iconic cities; Miami, Nice and Istanbul. Throughout the entire chase, you will never be bored, as every mission is action packed with detailed cuts-scence and known voice actors such as Michael Madsen and Iggy Pop.
What I am impressed the most in this game is the entire soundtrack. It isn't a failure; it's unique with a unique feel. It's a PS2 + XBOX and PC must play.
I do agree that Driv3r is not a failure at all. it's a good game but then, IMO I don't think it is a must play
here is my list: - Assassin's Creed 2: the gameplay itself may have flaws, but the story is an important part of this game. probably the most amazing story in video games I've ever played, the game itself changed me a lot. - GTA SA: no need to speak more. playing video games without GTA SA is like living a life without sex. no matter how many times I start a new game, it still like a fresh new experience. - Uncharted 2: young Indiana Jones version finding greatest mysterious thing on the world. amazing story, amazing atmosphere,... and IMO it's the best in Uncharted series. - Metal Gear Solid: it's really hard for me to pick which one is the best in the series. but if you want to understand about everything about this game, you really have to start from the first to the last one. - Splinter Cell: I have a lot of good time with SC1 and Pandora Tomorrow than the rest of the series. but the whole series itself are excellent at level design. - Max Payne: you gotta love this game because YOU IS f*ckING MAX PAYNE !!! - The Witcher: this is my first RPG game. to be honest, I bought it because I heard there were "mature contents" in this game. but then I've started to forget all those naughty thing and got my head stuck with the amazing story and experience in the very first moment of the game. and I can say TW1 has a lot of thing that are much better than TW2. - Dragon Age Origins: amazing RPG experience I've ever played. I didn't play this game at the time when it was a hit because I don't care much for this game, and I'm glad that I have realised I was wrong and played this game few months ago. also, Dragon Age 2 is a garbage. - Fallout: it's a shame that F1 and F2 are not fit with my taste, but I'm sure a lot of people will find it a lot of better than F3 and New Vegas. still, F3 and New Vegas left me a lot of good memories in the wasteland. - Skyrim: many people said this game is overrated, bad and sh*t,... I say f*ck them, this game is still in my PC since last year, and the game itself is awesome.
