One problem i had with IV is that i, shortly after the release, got a bit tired of it. This is because most of the real cars, the fictional vehicle resembled in-game, soon after release, got replaced by a newer generation. Even though some cars of the newer gen were already in production after the game's release, the fictional cars were based on the previous series. For example: The sentinel in IV was loosely based on the bmw m3 e46

but in 2007, the next gen m3 was released. user posted image
However there is probably a very good explanation for this - when the newer gen was released, the model was already finished.

This is a big problem for me (as i am interested in cars and think they are the major part of the game for me), since it has decreased the "replay value". That is why i think the timing wasn't the best, and that they should have some long-term planning when modelling cars in V.

Since the game is probably hitting the stores in 2012/2013, i don't think that is possible. We also, in the trailer, saw a new model (probably a sentinel) that was resembling the bmw m3 e92, which proves my point, as the new 3 series was released earlier this year (meaning, the new m3 is probably going to be released in 2014). Since i know there wouldn't exist enough reference images, when modelling a car that isn't out yet, the root of this problem is the timing.

Have you had this problem before?

Honestly, I don't give a damn about it.
As a PC gamer I can always mod the cars if I don't like them.

I like the cars in IV. They don't need to be brand new. I'd rather an old M3 than a new one, but it looks like the new one is in V.

OT: I don't think the wait will make the replay value lower for me, I'll enjoy the game for a long time after it comes out. It's never really happened to me with other games unless they really sucked, like TDU 2. I'll just enjoy what we got.

PS.: I'm comparing the two images and the blue M3 looks pretty nice to me, the new one is nice, but I will never get tired of the older one.

Not at all. I honestly don't care if the models of the cars are outdated. whatsthat.gif

Yea I kind of understand what your talking about. When I heard Gran turismo 4 was coming out in 2005, I was like "yes, I'm gonna love driving '05 models" and then similar thing happened with GT5. Point is, if GTA IV came out in 2008, dont expect many(or any for that matter) brand new model versions of cars in the game, especially if the game has been production for years.

If GTA V comes out this year, we could probably expect upto date models of recycled cars that we havent seen before: maybe 2008-2010 parodical verisons.

We can't fix the timing unfortunately

I can't figure out how this can be a concern in a game which has so much more to offer than cars which may carry a resemblance to real car models.

You expect the game to be in the future?

It probably took GTAV 3 or 2 years to fully make.
If they added the car models in 2010, there will obviously be older car models.

But honestly, I don't care about the cars.

It's still a terrific game, but the vehicles are a big part for me wink.gif

Hmm Intestesting point, as far as the sentinel goes, I actually prefer the E46 shape, it's a sexy design for sure

It would be awesome if they included different generations of the same car.

As far as timing goes, it will always be bad timing since new things are made every year, maybe a dlc for cars update would fix this issue for people like yourself.

I can't believe something like this bothers you. They're not even using licensed models. I think it's fun to figure out what cars they were inspired by, but I don't care if the generation is off by a few years. GTA is a fictional universe so of course everything won't match the real world perfectly.

Well, I'm perfectly fine with the fact that Rockstar can't look into the future of the car industry as they have no ties to the automotive industry like Polyphony Digital has (the developer of the Gran Turismo series). I find it rather charming that the cars reflect the time in which the game was developed and not just the moment it was released.

I see what you mean, auto manufactures run a 3 year run of body styles and they change constantly to be fresh and sell new cars to existing owners (hence 3 year leases).

But personally I'd like to see more of a mix of old and new, I like older cars as much as newer ones, but i see your point.

Well, it's not like in real life you only see the models from the current year. But still, I hope we see at least one car from this year.

A game can only be "present day" for a few months after it comes out and then it becomes a past period just like other GTAs. In GTA IV, not just cars but the way phones and Internet are used has become very dated, and various targets of satire in the game have left the scene in real life (for example, TV shows Medicate Me and 72 parody ER and 24, both over for years). Games take so long to make it's risky to set them in the present. GTA III never really got to be in the present because 9/11 caused such a cultural shift before the game was done.
