So GTA 1 and 2 wasnt a Generation Leap but 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 has been a hugh leap imo.

Why do you think R* decided to name it "5" already and not GTA: Los Santos or something like that (like Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, Vice City or San Andreas).

I would have expected V for next gen. But i think it has a reason why they gave it the Title GTA 5 - maybe they made so many changes and it deserves a new number...

Do you think we will see a huge improvement to IV and thats why they named it 5?

I think the "bold new direction" is what is going to set this game apart from IV. And I think up close, graphics will be more detailed and stuff than 4. Very similar looking though, but the city is built up much better and more realistic than LC IMO.

We're in for a big "surprise".

Simply put, the story of Niko and the Diamonds is done. This is a new story in a new setting. That is why they named it V.

As far as GTA1 to GTA2 was concerned, there was a major leap in gameplay. For one, you could actually save the game anytime you had enough money in GTA2. Also, the respect-o-meter changed the game in a major way.

To quote Strauss Zelnick, when asked about GTAV before its announcement, and I'm paraphrasing: "Traditionally Rockstar make GTA games in trilogies."

So there was the GTA3 trilogy (GTA3, Vice, San Andreas) and the GTAIV Trilogy (GTAIV, TLaD, Ballad of Gay Tony). This is a new trilogy.

GTA 3 had Vice City and San Andreas, GTA 4 had the lost and damed and the ballad of gay tony.

IV era(if it does change to V era in V, even though they appear to look similar) seemed sort of short to me though. They had episodes, but they were in the same city with some cars that were already supposed to be in IV and it just explained the story of 4 better.

It's obvious 4 and 5 are in the same universe. All of the adds are the same and a lot of the cars are exactly the same.

It's more than just a "V". Rockstar is also making a statement about the how big a part money will play this time around. Remember when R* said, "Niko's path through the game(GTA IV) isn't going to tell a stereotypical "rags to riches" story; instead, it will offer a grittier tale that's about survival, "rags to slightly better rags" to be exact"? The GTA V trailer shows a lot of hints that point to towards the financial side of this game.

I'm also assuming they just thought it was stupid to call it GTA: Los Santos. That sounds like a bit of a downgrade from GTA: San Andreas.

What's the big surprise? I think it's jus going to be like San Andreas but with gta iv graphics. Good enough for me.
A big surprise for me would be to have the game take place in 2 completely different areas, like we start in Los santos and then take a plane to vice city.
