| QUOTE (i_shoot_once @ Saturday, Apr 20 2013, 14:58) | hate to bump this lol, but my exams are coming to an end so i made a little progress on the escort, as u can see im not such an experianced modder and im learning as i go along, can someone please advice me on the best way to make me windows transparent i have no idea how to without making the whole car see through when the lights are on ( i use zmodeler 2 ).
| seems like a perfectly fair reason for a bump, the model is looking good to make windows transparent, you need to make sure that they have 2 UV channels (in zmod, click properties, and its a dropdown box that needs setting to "2". sometimes its easier to remove them from the chassis, and have them as a separate object (good idea for rear side glass, as it gets you round the "i cant see my interior" bug. then for your glass setting, make sure to turn "alpha" down a bit, so they are transparent - but dont turn it all the way down, you need to be able to see the glass a little bit... if you get stuck, just let me know also, to make your chrome shiny, you need to set an "environmental map" on UV channel 2 in your materials setting (also turn up "spec" a bit, so it reflects the specular dot) for a nice env map, feel free to use my "bongChrome2.bmp" from one of my recent models - that should give a nice reflection, without too much noise on it, just blue with some cloudy bits... here is bongchrome2.bmp (just in case you need it) - feel free to change the colour if its too blue

Don't fall for the white chrome syndrome, the chrome colour should be dark gray, and the environment map will make them lighter, the lighter the map the more reflective (mcbongs map is perfect), adjust the darkness more or less whatever you desired) This can be more work for you, but its can be rewarding, I suggest you texture and add some shades to the chrome parts too, so they look consistently well in all lighting condition.

You got a hectic schedule, but still managed to do some car mods long time ago, Harelquin relased a Buick mod, I was stunned with the chrome quality. No ENB, but he used ashdexx good old reflection hack. I dissected his mod a bit and learned He cleverly created a reflection map, the middle is bright and detailed then it gradually turned black outward to the border. So I used the same approach, not as good, but half way there. I used 2 sets of maps, one for chrome and the other for the body (darker version of chrome map) ...for strange reason my subsequent SA mods failed to replicate this ever since. | QUOTE (bigfoot2003 @ Tuesday, Apr 23 2013, 03:10) | @chong, nice car, are you tempted to tune it or keep it all original? Fuel injectors are for kids you know One time i was dumb enough to drain a battery while trying to start the engine without pumping the gas pedal. | the plan is to keep it as standard as possible, maybe some 1980s car mods, but nothing silly, no bodykits or turbos or anything... and yep, i drained my battery the same way when i first got the car.. got to tickle the throttle a bit before you turn the key or it gets all grumpy

Thinking about modelling a cabriolet? Tricking the throttle Pretty much like priming a 2 stroke lawnmower engine I cant beleive i am so slow to realise this, funny I understand this system quite recently.

a cabriolet is a possibility, but after having a massive upside down car crash in early 2006, i think all cars should have a roof in fact, the car crash was the reason i started 3D modelling, after the crash, i was stuck in the house for a few months to recover, with nothing to do, so i studied zModeler, and started making 3D models - first a Zakspeed Capri, and a Ford Transit Mk2... (i also make a Mk1 escort, but it was terrible, and never got finished)
