what should be changed in handling.dat to make the cars roll/flip more times when they crash? (act somewhat more real/dramatic)

a bigger mass i guess but you'll have to hit the thing at very high speeds

i'm using Realistic Driving 1.3 mod (gives the cars higher deformation and good handling), but i want to make the cars do more flips/rolls when i crash them as i said.
Drama for videos biggrin.gif

i forgot to mention it cause for me it's obvious but masses as lot of other parameters can be modified using specific tools icon14.gif

ok, i'll try to work something with the mass. i thought that maybe the center of gravity may affect the flips somehow

center of gravity height can make the car do flips too . but the thing is your car will be uncontrolable . you'll do flips but only this biggrin.gif

first of all sorry for my bad english. i think it's wrong tyre physics fault in the game. if you see any car flip over videos you'll notice that tyre grip don't allow tyre to slip, while car is rolling-instead grip increases at ground contact moment and tyre absorbs car and it continues rolling. but in rage tyre slips and you canno't flip over realistically until car's mass center is too high, but that's unrealistic and you should raise mass center so much that car will flip over each time you steer.

i try to explain why it is happening: rage has simple and unrealistic tyre parameters: "(Wc+) m_fTractionCurveMax" and "(Wc-) m_fTractionCurveMin" first parameter is maximum tyre grip and second one is minimum tyre grip(slip). and rage determines which parameter to use looking at "(Wc-) m_fTractionCurveLateral"(mostly 14.5 in gta but in real life tyre rubber best value is 7-7.5) this parameter is angle of vector of straight vector of tyre and cornering vector. if cornering angle exceeds the value written under "(Wc-) m_fTractionCurveLateral" parameter than tyre just slips.

p.s. you still can increase car metal friction and elasticity coeficient to 0.5-0.6(common\data\materials\materials.dat) to somewhat get close to real crashes. also increase rubber elasticity to 1.0. maybe this will get you close to what you want.

for more information on tyre physics just google "Pacejka tyre model"

luck

if R* would have made by default realistic car rolls . you would have be rolling at each corner , as everyone here drives above real life limitations . i think that this has been done by default like that for gameplay . but i also think that GTA being what it is . if you want a very realistic car behaviour you can get it

tnx for the feedback levmans, i'll try it out and reply if anything good happens
i saw this video and i wanted to achieve something like this, in terms of rolls/flips

raptorscream i forgot to mention: you can set "(Wc-) m_fTractionCurveMin" at high values like 5.0 or even 10.0. but keep "(Wc-) m_fTractionCurveLateral" value at 20.0 or 25.0 to avoid flipping on each corner. if doing this you will not have to raise car's mass center and you will get crashes like in hollivood movies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qesPh-7gkDQ

but that's ONLY for making crash movies. otherwise it's unrealistic values and car will not move realistically. luck
....
i tried taht and it's not working as i expected sad.gif

i've changed the friction/elasticity of metal and rubber, only managed to make the car bounce smile.gif

after i've watched that video again, i'm thinking adding elasticity to metal (bounce)

L.E. after some trials changing the values of friction/elasticity to metal and rubber i didn't get anything, only to make the car bounce...

@levmans: where i can find "(Wc-) m_fTractionCurveMin" and "(Wc-) m_fTractionCurveLateral" ?
