Apple has never been in any kind of low end market, as always.

BUT, what if in the iPhone 5 presentation, as they naturally will remove the 3GS from the actually selling smartphone, they redesign it and show up as a new, low cost smartphone? It just have EVERYTHING to be a low end smartphone

Lets take a look at his specs and basic features, probably the three main differences would be

Very Thin and Redesigned: Maybe not as thing as the iPod Touch 4G ,but close to it
Front Camera: A Big deal would be a front camera, its not expensive so it wont change the price so much
Overcloked CPU: the 3GS CPU to its date is amazing, but its 600Mhz , if Apple could make it 800Mhz would be great to be comparable with competitor smartphones (for dumb people the more Mhz it have the more fast it is, not that true.)

So, the main features would be

3.5'' 480x320 screen
800Mhz CPU
256MB RAM
8/16 GB Storage
3MP Camera and VGA front camera with alot of features such as touch focus. VGA rear and front video capture.
Price: 199$ to 219$ 8 GB , 219$ to 249$ 16 GB.

What do you guys think?

My main question is why? They have the largest selling phone on the market, so why do they need to change it?
Your specs are out of whack to be honest, overclocking an old CPU doesn't make sense because it will use more power and won't really be anymore effective, and a 3MP camera is a joke, it would sell for a hundred bucks.

If they were going to release a lower end phone they would release two models, the regular Iphone 5 and the other model.

But i don't see them doing it, they have such monopoly with the iphone because it is the only phone model with the Apple OS, releasing a lower end model with the same OS would make a lot of people, especially casual iphoners shift to the cheaper model cutting into Apples profits.

It kind of makes sense to me for a few reasons. First of all, Samsung is taking a bite out of Apple, and it's starting to hurt. They kept the iPhone 3G around for a long time for this very reason: to have a cheaper SKU out in the world.

Secondly, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the iPhone 4s has sort of crested. I'm still waiting to discover what the new 'must have' feature of the iphone5 could possibly be, but short of something huge and new like haptic feedback or a backside touchpanel, all we're looking at are speed increases, and the phone's pretty fast already. The camera could always be upgraded but again, it's pretty nice.

So I reckon there will be some surprise major update, and if there is, apple has a history of maintaining a cheaper alternative. Now that they're upgrading their docking connectors, I don't think the idea of a slimmer model of te iPhone 4s as a 'lite' iPhone to be too far fetched.

Overcloked CPU:

That, Apple will never ever ever overclock their CPU.
Why? Because more error's will happen in the processor and that will slow down the whole thing, making it slower than a normal faster processor.

I'm not sure about Apple history, they have underclocked but never overclocked

Your specs are based on entry to mid level phones of a year ago. If Apple were to make a cheaper phone, it'd be similarly spec'd to their previous release, nothing less. That'd put it at the 4S level in terms of performance.

As to the idea of them doing this, I don't see that happening. Apple is comparable to Lamborghini is with cars. They only offer premium products. They've got no interest, and shouldn't, in releasing mediocre equipment.

No I don't think it's likely that this will happen. They will simply sell the iPhone 4/S as well and drop the price a bit, so people who aren't willing to pay full price for the iPhone 5 (or 6 or 'new iPhone') can have a slice of Apple pie.

I don't know how long they're planning on doing so but they could easily keep selling the 3GS and people will eat that sh*t up.

As soon as the 4S came out they dropped the 16 and 32GB 4 and sold it in 8GB for $99, at least on VZW. I could see something similar happening with the 4S. You'd be amazed at how many customers called in trying to get a 3G or 3GS from us even though we never carried it and it was already 3 or more years old just because it was an iPhone and they couldn't afford more than $50 (AT&T's price for the 3GS).
