Can Rockstar be those boundary pushing rebels they used to be or are Rockstar losing their balls?

I think the Episilon Program is the first sign that Rockstar has no intention to lay off their controversial behaviour just yet. It might not be a significant thing for GTA V but it seems that their usual self hasn't changed much.

I think that the greatest controversies are from GAMEPLAY aspects. I would like to see the civilians act more pitiful, like if you aim a gun at them, they BEG you not to kill them, or once in a while you see someone jump from a building as a suicide, or seeing people crawl after being seriously wounded. Possibly even another mad-man running around the city so YOU know how it looks.

This, is what creates controversy

A mission where you kidnap someone (they may owe your boss lots of money or whatever) and then tortue them would be cool.. i dont mean go all saw on them, but simply they get strapped to a chair, get punched a couple of times, have some pistol whips and shoot them if they dont say, or keep doing stuff like whipping them until they do.

People begging for mercy or crawling instead of just curling up like in IV would be awesome biggrin.gif Imagine if there's animals in the game and someone's walking their dog. Well, look at that you just shot the dog, you sick bastard. And now the man who was walking his beloved pet is crying over it's body, hugging it and mumbling things in shock, looking mindlessly into the distance. This is something that would probably make me go cry.gif, turn of the game and go sit in a corner. It should be there. It would probably take me a few hours before turning the game on again, but it would make me "bond" with the game, in lack of better words. It would make a impact on me and I would never forget that game. Needless to say, I would never harm a pet in that game again whatsthat.gif

Or, you shoot the owner, and the dog is still attached to the leash and whimpers and curls up next to the guy. That would make me not want to kill a single pedestrian

WHAT if you were in an intense shootout, and one of the cops is taking cover behind his car and you hear him get on the phone and tell his wife that he loves her, while sobbing? These moral realities would make me WANT to be a good person in GTA wow.gif

Indeed. Some sort of moral implications that could be added to GTA would deepen the gameplay a lot, and also help progressing with the more serious direction that was taken in IV, if they intend to continue down that path. Someone will probably come with the counter-argument "I want to kill and wreak havoc in GTA, not feel bad". Well, if you're going to murder someone, there's moral consequences tounge2.gif Besides, it wouldn't be that hard to ignore if you feel like just killing in cold blood. biggrin.gif

First of all I only read page 1 so if these have been covered sorry in advanced

1.School bus as a drivable vehicle
(even though that doesn't sound controversial now you just wait)

2.There WAS a rumour of a child molestor as a character giving missions (not what you think)

3.The ability to blow up buildings-e.g if you plant c4 around a building it will blow up or (forgive me for being bad towards people who've been effected) if you crash a jet or helicopter into a building it will blow up.

4.Maybe a false version of a celebrity such as George clooney or Peter Jackson or even Katy Perry.

5.Obviously the return of hot coffee and Epsinoism.Forgive my spelling mistakes.

Kids in the game. Which we are able to shoot or kill. I know this sounds so bad but if we want a completely realistic world, this has to be in. Also there have never been kill-able children in games before and this WILL piss off a lot of people, what R* is known best for.

Rockstar has wanted GTA to be allowed to be as explicit as an R-rated movie like Scarface or a TV series like The Sopranos. They wanted to get to that level so they could tell stories with the same kinds of scenes. They're not trying to cross the line from art to porn, they just want to be able use everything other kinds of art can use. They don't want to be told they can't put something in because it's a video game.

How many different ways can you kill an NPC? How long does their dead body lay there? What can you do with their dead body? What if it were a child? What if it were a pregnant woman? Considering American Psycho, a fictional book about a 1980s murderer (who kills a child), has been banned and sold in plastic wrapping in many countries, I don't think it's a wise idea for Rockstar to allow the same, if not worse, things happen in a realistic, modern first person environment. You can argue about how most people won't get f*cked up from playing a game that includes over-the-top sh*t like this, but how about those potential murderers that have been influenced by it? Why would Rockstar want to put themselves in that situation?

There could be a building in Los Santos westside that is a hugely popular video game studio. On occasion, a group of picketers protesting violent video games could demonstrate outside the building. You use your weapons of choice to "quell the protest." Maybe they have a vocal ringleader who especially deserves to be taken out ... Maybe some of the protesters packing heat ...

In GTA IV there was a minigame to shoot all the pigeons. So I think that Rockstar has already crossed the line of shooting animals. I want to see wildlife in the country like in RDR, so if they do that, hunting will be a natural consequence. At least hunting in the country is more legal than shooting pigeons in town.

One real problem with pushing the limits is not just the AO rating, but the restrictions that the consoles place on prurient content, and their implied advocacy of (or profit from) such content. Maybe Rockstar could make or authorize an adaults-only DLC for the PC, out of reach of the console censors.

Killable kids should not and will not happen. Too much. they shouldn't push limits just for the sake of pushing limits. Especially somthing like this that a good chink of thier fans wouldn't even like.

This is something I probably wonder about more than a lot of people. I'm not that concerned so much, say, with who the protagonist is going to be. I'm thinking the atmosphere will be lighter and brighter than IV, but the humor took a more mature turn with the move to HD and will that continue? There were enough "69" and "cock" jokes all over the place. IV had its innuendo and everything but it was a little more subtle than in SA, which held back none and tempted controversy in so many ways even if they hadn't left an unfinished sex minigame in the code.

IV was a bid for mainstream respect for the series, which is difficult no matter what because video games are traditionally considered lowbrow entertainment for teenagers. GTA has grown up and the fanbase that was there from the start has grown up too.

Yet those 12 year old kids on PSN and Live who still haven't grown up? Rockstar grew up, a large chunk of fans grew up BUT, GTA always attracts new players who are young and new to the game. Sadly those new players are annoying little 12 year olds who can't mute their mic and babble on endlessly. Sadly.

OT: GTA is going to introduce animals which I'm 90% sure would be killable . RDR has done it before but this is GTA which gets tons more attention from the media. And knowing Rockstar, there's bound to be more...

I'm 30 and I've never played GTA online.

Point is, the pool of GTA players cannot be surveyed simply by who you meet playing online, or even posting on these forums for that matter.

Oh, and ostensibly a game with a rating of "M" is ostensibly not marketed to 12-year-olds. This is a controversial area in itself.

Most of the humor of SA and Vice was likely to be lost on people who had no experience of their respective time periods anyway.

Well you have missed a world of gameplay, and dodged those 12 year olds but I do see your point. GTA is a M game until now and it is meant for older audiences. BTW what is the difference between a M and an AO game since its only a one year difference?

^ Judging by the recuring post of "I wanna kill animal and babies" and "I wanna see gore", unless some lied about the age when registering here, they're really over 18-year old people with the mind of 12-year old.

Sex and gore are a magnet of kids who wanna show their lil' friends they play an adult game. Consequently companies sell more. Are they wrong doing so? Their bank accounts say no.

GTA4 has a more serious tone about these subjects maybe to keep this kind of public away, and avoid that classic talk about games making kids violent.
