Well, I bought GTA IV on steam yesterday and I having low fps with a PC that exceeds minimum requirements.
I set the game on 800x600, LOW textures, draw distance and that stuff in 5, VSync off and I have 20-25 FPS, and where are explosions or too many cars/people I have 16-20. This, talking at Multiplayer, of course.

I have installed the 1.0.7.0 Patch.

These are my specs:

AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0GHz
3GB RAM DDR2 800MHz
ATI Radeon HD4670 1GB GDDR2
Windows 7 32bit

Thanks.

I don't think that's possible, you will have to reinstall turn.gif
You can try to downgrade, but I believe that totally ruins your game.

I don't think you can downgrade the Steam version, as Steam has Auto updates, thus meaning the latest Patch will more than likely get installed the first time the game is ran?

Why can't you re-install?-You have to un-install the game first, thus meaning the disc space used is regained...Installing the game only takes about 10-15 minutes, so it is not a big wait until you get to play the game...Don't make sense as to why you can't try that simple-easy method? confused.gif

The disk-space is not the problem, is the 12-hours that the download takes. (I have a slow internet)

It does NOT take 12 hours to download-it only takes about 15-20 minutes to download and about 10 minutes to install....I have the Steam version too, is how I know...and my download speed is up to 18mbps(however, it only did a max. of 3mbps during the actual download for some reason..) No offense, but something doesn't add up there? confused.gif

That depends on if you have the Download version OR the Retail(DVD) version...If you have the Retail(DVD) version, just un-install, delete the rest of the install directory that didn't get deleted with the traditional un-install and then re-install..then simply download and install Patch 4 and that's it...

However, if Legal Download version, you have to figure out a way to bypass the Auto Updates so the Patch 4 will stay and not get updated to the latest one the first time you run the game...SlaveZerO is the one that mentioned how it's done on the Steam version, however, I cannot find that topic for some reason...Long story short, it is more difficult this way than with the DVD version...

That's because you're confusing Mbps with MBps.

radio man you are looking like a fool....it takes 15 - 20 min to install from disk... but on steam you have no disk, you must download the entire game from the internet.... so before you go calling people liars you better get your facts straight... even on my internet it is a 3 hour download! i am on 100 mbit and steam throttles you.... if you can download 16 gb in 15 - 20 min you are either the 2nd coming of christ or the most interesting man in the world (or a liar).

OP you will need to turn of auto update in steam

original poster, are you still reading this thread? if so, try these settings, along with memrestrict commands
x2 250 is not bad processor, its that GTA IV is designed for three or more computing cores to share the work. 4670 is not necessarily a bad card either, its just that its not powerful enough to run GTA IV without a quad core helping it along. i was able to get gta iv running with athlon 64 x2 3800+ but i had it being helped by a pci-e power plug connected 9800gt. check some of my older posts for more tips and settings on running gta IV with dual core CPUs.

The steam auto update feature is broken, i.e. it doesn't like being turned off.

For downgrading instructions look here http://www.gtagaming.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128300/ it apparently works.

No, actually I have Cox Cable internet, which has Power Boost technology to give a speed boost when Downloading large files....On my internet, Normal Download speeds are up to 18Mbps with Power Boost when Downloading large files, which increases the speed...Here is the proof: Cox.com look at the Preferred package-that is the one I have...So, that is how I can download the game in 15-20 minutes... tounge2.gif lol.gif Internet speed is 100mbps on my desktop and 54mbps on my laptop...It's just a matter of having Power Boost Technology on your internet, I reckon?

It takes about 15-20 minutes to Download and another 15-20 minutes to install the game...and then another 5 minutes to actually go through the registration and first time set up stuff...before you can play the game... lol.gif tounge2.gif

What boggles me is why you would say it's an "obvious lie" that it takes him "12 hours" to download the game and updates from Steam when you haven't a clue what kind of connection he has.....

What mkey82 said. It works like a charm. I've done it plenty of times myself.

And please, just ignore radioman's posts. He's as clueless and ignorant as always. (No offense, but it's true.)

Well, If you're on Dial-up internet, you obviously should NOT be downloading games, as obviously it WILL take forever-lol tounge2.gif lol.gif

If you have slow internet, you should be buying the disc versions-NOT the Download versions in my opinion....It's just common sense if you have slow internet that takes 12+ hours to download one game... smile.gif lol.gif tounge2.gif

It is not normal for me to jump into a thread just to have a go at someone but my god...Radio..you are sounding a bit silly

I downloaded ARMA II Combined Operations so I could play Dayz mod last sunday

It downloads ARMA II + Operation Arrowhead - 16GB of file
I have decent speed internet and I also have 100mbps on my desktop

It took 8...let me repeat 8 hrs to download via Steam - Am I a liar?
Granted I downloaded it on a Sunday afternoon here in the UK when all the kids in my village are online with their Xbox's and PS3's reducing my bandwidth due to high usage(we have a mini telephone exchange in the village)
Also, It is the top selling game on Steam at the moment so there are a lot of users attempting to gain access to the files which can 'apparently' slow down the download as well.

Perhaps he downloaded during Steam Sale and we know when GTA IV drops to £4.99/$4.99, high number of people buy it.

How do you know he is on dial up? Assuming again? Not all areas of the globe have super fast broadband - the village next door to my village has an 1/8th of the speed i have because they have to feed off a exchange about 4 miles away

This section is for people to come with problems and hope to find the answer.
Not to be scorned - if you have nothing constructive to add then just keep quiet
