I believe that a larger and less-frowned upon deployment of sports is vital for the GTA series to innovate. Don't get me wrong, the game itself looks promising in terms of gameplay by the looks of the first trailer, but sports are definitely a must. I don't see how the game can thrive as it's expected to if Rockstar doesn't try something new, and from my perspective, that would be a larger implementation of sports. Football, Soccer, Hockey, Tennis etc.. should all be put in GTA V. Rockstar tried a bit of Sports in GTA SA i.e basketball and boxing but it got boring after a while. Plus, whats the fun when you're shooting hoops yourself? You can't even have boxing matches. If you actually wanna get in the ring you are required to have a different fighting skill other than boxing, and all you do is get taught the controls and everything after successfully beating the piss out of a bot for half a minute. Hell, you really couldn't have an actual boxing match. All the fighting styles in San Andreas, even including GTA IV (with the exception of cage fighting in BOGT) were all for show and maybe from others perspectives, self-defense.
A larger implementation of sports grants wonders for GTA V in my opinion. Cruising around in a stolen vehicle doing drive-bys as opposed to cruising around doing drive-bys and afterwards heading to a park to play a baseball game? Which one is obviously better?
The GTA series is a video game series of open-world sandbox games accompanied by a thrilling storyline to accomodate a broader spectrum of gamers. The implementation of sports could perhaps broaden that view much higher.
Sorry if I sound close-minded, but, if I don't see the option to have a game of ball, or a boxing match-.. f*ck, whatever it is, baseball game etc.. then I don't see GTA V becoming as successful and innovating as most people say. Maybe we'll see more enterable buildings and all but without sports, I just don't see the game as being great. Maybe the storyline, map and for those visual whores, graphics, could perhaps compensate for it all, but without sports I could find the game to be less interesting in terms of gameplay and freeroam.
What do you think? Is GTA V going to do well without sports, or do you think it'll flop, at least in the freeroam aspect?

IMO I could live without the sports. Mini-games are completely different (Bowling,Golf, Basketball) but I don't see a fully functional baseball, football, soccer, or even Frisbee-In-The-Dark game implemented into GTA 5.
"The GTA series is a video game series of open-world sandbox games accompanied by a thrilling storyline to accomodate a broader spectrum of gamers. The implementation of other fun activities could perhaps broaden that view much higher."
Imagine after doing a drive-by/whatever the hell you want to do in a regular GTA game, going to a big shopping mall, visiting the countryside to hunt for animals, drive into your GARAGE-phew..and entering your large house and enjoying the company of your dog or cat, f*ucking up a Walmart or any large department store, picking up a bunch of Mexicans and dropping them off to customers with terrible yards (Mini-game), or even trying to save enough money to refurnish/upgrade your houses.
The ideas are endless, eventually sports will be added but before that, expect more fun activities to be implemented. I'm sure you'll be pleased.

However, if the 40-50 year old man that we saw in the trailer were to be the main character we control; it would be better if we did not have any sports. It would ruin the feel of the game.
