Please post your PC specs first.
Also do you have a certain budget to buy a GPU?

Can you specify more with the CPU? i5-XXX? and perhaps the mobo as well? Also there has to be some sort of a budget. tounge.gif

7970, 7950, 7870, and 7850. (fastest to slowest of the flagship cards) Then obviously you've got the 7990 as the dual GPU card, which beats them all.

3Gb per GPU, that's 6Gb total on the card.

We meet again lol.
Well if you want the "true" beast than I wouldn't go with ati. Ati used to lead in graphics for a short time until gtx 690 came out
But be warned it is HELLA expensive a song gtx 690 cost around $1500 yep that's right.
I know some rich guy that got 2 gtx 690s for 3 k and ran em in the same case. Insane isn't it.

OT: ati's flagship is the 7990 but I wouldn't just go for power. You want a decent cooling top too if you're planning on a beast build. Cooling is just as important as anything else and you can't go wrong with a good one.
Gigabyte is pretty good IMO for gtx I don't know bout ati, apparently a lot of the tops are overpriced

A GTX 690 is $1000.... not 1500... where have you been shopping at?

@oyster: If you got a thousand pounds just for the GPU I'd suggest spending some on the GPU and

A. Upgrade some other parts
B. Save it

1000 pounds is a bit too much to be spending on the graphics card alone

currently i have brought a xigmatek case that i transplanted a currys pc internals into. Currently the motherboard is maxed out interms of ram, hard drives and cpu, the only thing i upgraded from standard was the graphics card i mentioned.

I Prefer the reliability and stability that comes with an ATI card coupled with an Intel CPU. So i have the case that can be converted to water-cooling as it has radiator compartments and fans allready. I just want to start getting prepared and see what components are out there. TBH i wont be upgrading till Christmas time by witch time hopefully the components will have come down in price, Just want to get ready and get an idea of top end components now. Feel free to post some high MHZ quality gaming ram as well as some decent Motherboards, and the latest Intel CPU's.

Here in australia, everything is expensive. Period.

OT: for ram you can never go wrong with Kingston. I have it.
ASUS makes some awesome motherboards, currently I'm using an ASUS.

I must admit im very imppressed with asus after getting one of there grapics cards. Voltage tweak built in plus there cooling method is better than ati stock.

Fingers crossed they do there own version of the 7990 by the time i purchase a card aswell.

Filled with hard drives? It's fun to have a super build if you have the money, powerful components that make a difference is obviously what you want and if money isn't an issue go all the way.
But it comes to a point where it is wasteful, do you have a bunch of SSD's? Or 5TB worth of normal HDD space for no reason?

Curious is all I am.

EDIT: see underlined text for the edit, my phone auto-corrected.

You know you can buy from an e-retailer, only extra cost is for shipping, which won't be that expensive.

@finn: fun to have a superbuild? I don't think so. But it's fun to have a limited budget and a cheap build, upgrading it slowly. tounge2.gif

Well when i first brought the PC it comes with a 1.5tb drive HDD, after 2 weeks it suffered hard drive failure when it came back they had replaced it with a 2tb HDD. the current motherboard it has is tiny were talking tinier than a micro atx board. It has 2 connections for SATA one taken by the DVD ROM and the other taken by the HDD hence its maxed out. In terms of storage for the new one the more the merrier. When i last built a PC from scratch in 97 or 98 time i had a 20gb hard-drive that was more than enough, Nowadays that's barely enough for a game so if game installs keep going up and up then the more space the better in my eyes, especially if i'm looking to get at least 2 or 3 years out of the beast!

this is it at the moment!

That is mainly from the side fan i have blowing onto the graphics card. The front one has a dust filter as standard but the non standard one didnt come with one. I have gotta get the hoover out and give it a spring clean.

Before you even THINK of getting a 7990, you need to get a proper PSU.

You're lucky your video card hasn't fried yet with such a sh*te PSU powering it. I'm willing to put money on that PSU not being able to deliver even close to 880W.

Make sure its from a good brand/OEM like Antec/Tagan/OCZ/Silverstone/Seasonic/FSP.
