Topic is self explanatory. There is a webcam on one PC out of the five PCs on my LAN. Is there a tool to share the webcam over LAN?

Also, is there a way to broadcast the webcam over internet so that I can have a look at my employees when I'm home? Of course I want the tool to run in the background. sly.gif

Let me get this right, PC1 has the webcam but you want something so that if say PC2 wants to use the webcam it can since PC1 isn't using it.
Ok the problem is that where ever the webcam is that's the image it's going to pick up. If PC1 is in one room and PC2 is in another, it's not like if PC2 takes control of the webcam you'll be able to see what is going on within the room of PC2 since the webcam is in the room with PC1.
If the webcam and the computers are in the same room then it might be possible with a USB switcher of some kind. A quick Google search turned this up but it's only for switching between 2 computers not 5. http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-One-Button-...s/dp/B006Z0Q2SI

NO. I do have brains and understand that the webcam is on pc1 and won't show the room of pc2. tounge.gif

This is my office I'm talking about and I want to keep an eye on my employees.
Now I have a webcam on a staff pc and I've placed it in such a way that I can see the work area. I used webcamxp (as suggested in Have a question topic) and now I can see my employees from my cabin. What I needed additionally was to keep an eye on 'em lazy bones when I'm at home.

I searched a little and in simple words: I need to make an IP camera out of that webcam while keeping it in stealth mode. sly.gif

Any idea to what needs to be done?

Okay.. so now I have managed to auto upload photos at fixed intervals from my webcam to my site via FTP through webcamxp.
The image is replaced every second with a new image. ('cam.jpg' name remains while the image changes.)

Can anyone write a script to make a page which keeps refreshing this 'cam.jpg' so that it appears as if it is live streaming?
I will upload this page on my server so that whenever I want to see the image, I can simply open that page instead of the image. cool.gif

That's easy.
In your HTML page just add this line to the top
CODE
<META HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" CONTENT="#">

# is the refresh time in seconds

So you can do something as simple as
CODE
<html><META HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" CONTENT="5">
<body><img src="URL TO IMAGE">
</body>
</html>

You can also using a Vista/7 gadget (good luck finding one and be careful since they are all no longer supported by Mircosoft) that can load images from a URL and refresh.
I would have normally also pointed you to Yahoo Widgets however it seems they stopped supporting it as well.

As a proponent of privacy, and not fully understanding the laws wherever you are, you may want to take a more direct approach and mount a couple security cams in the office.

Ah, its just a small firm with five employees. Webcam does the trick. I'm not hacking their PCs, man. Just a surveillance cam to see who comes and who goes in my office when I'm at home. They're fully aware of the cam's existence.

Thanks for the solution wolf. Much appreciated. icon14.gif
Edit: What does the value of CONTENT refer to? Seconds?
