My system:

Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit
Intel 2 Duo Core CPU ~ 2.2ghz
ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series, 1024 MB DDR3
2GB Ram
No mods installed

My copy of GTA VC is from steam. When I try to launch the game it crashes immediately, not even getting to the loading screen. I have tried these things

1) Setting it in 98/ME compatibility mode
2) Making it a DEP exception
3) Turning off windows aero
4) Using someone elses .set file
5) Deleting clientregistyblob file and restarting steam
6) Verifying the game cache

The most recommended thing is deleting the .set file in the documents folder, but the thing is that I don't even get far enough for the game to make one. How can I get this to work?

The gta_vc.set file is created when you actually play the game with the settings. If you don't get to enter the game, it can't create such a file. It's hard to tell what bug this could be, do you get any kind of error window?

It says it's launching but just flickers black and nothing happens. I'll try to record what happens and upload it to explain it better

I've found some, any chance it helps?

Problem #2:
Vice City crashes after a certain amount of time, with no obvious catalyst for the crash.

Solution: You probably have overheating/RAM issues. Open Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL or right-click the Task Bar -> Task Manager) and end all non-essential processes.

Advice: Defragment your hard drive, and check for things like spyware and viruses. There are many free utilities available for this... simply google Spybot, Ad-aware, AVG Free, etc... Please note that spybot and ad-aware are resource hogs in my experience and may slow down your system... for better system performance, it is a good idea to uninstall them after running them on your system.

I guess that's worth a shot. Thanks for trying to help smile.gif

It's weird though because I can run GTAIV at Mid-High and GTA SA with icenhancer fine but III and VC refuse to launch

Hope it works for you matey. wink.gif
Either way, if it does, are you sure your PC's video card supports 640x480 resolution?

Here are some settings files that should get you past that check, try one or the other and see if it works. I have the PC version not the steam version so am not sure if they are compatible. Good luck!

Alright I finally got it to work by using someone else's .set file. Now that I got it to work I should delete the file?

If everything works perfectly, why delete it? Keep it that way. Enjoy. smile.gif

Do not delete it-- in fact you want to make a copy of it in case you ever booger up your settings. If you delete it, you will have the same problem.

What happened is VC starts (after an initial install) in a native resolution of 640x480 if it does not find a settings file.... your PC does not support 640 x 480 so when it tried to launch-- it couldn't since the resolution is not supported.

The settings file that you were linked to and used was one I created on my PC where I changed the settings to a higher resolution already. So when you started the game, it found the settings file you downloaded and started the game in the higher resolution already and allowed you to get past that.

Now any changes you make in your game settings (resolution, draw distance, etc) will be saved in that file--- it is "your" settings file now...

Hope you understand how this fixed it.
