Lol some people with their 16gb of RAM! I have built and maintained corporate servers with less RAM.

As a game developer myself, I seem to have a fairly modest setup, although it's due an upgrade.

Intel i5
4GB DDR3 RAM
nVidia GTX260

I can tell you now when you see people with 16GB of RAM and you're like "me want", don't waste your money. Unless you encoding and rendering video or 3D animation all the time, there is no point.

From experience, 6GB is the best amount, 2GB for the operating system in the backgroud and 4GB left for the game, seeing as VERY few games are coded to use any more than that. Most games have a function for refreshing the memory and removing things from memory, so you are very rarely in a situation when more than 4GB of information needs to be loaded at any one time.

Seeing as 6GB can be a pain to get, you would have to get a single 4GB stick and a 2GB stick, you might as well just buy a 2X4GB bundle and have the extra breathing room.

As I keep saying, I'm a developer myself, I create 3D environments, work with multiple high resolution textures at the same time, placing them into a game engine, etc. All on the setup I posted above.

i look at my task manager alot and see my performance tab i use well over 8gb alot of the time many programs and games including gta iv will use 6-12 gb of ram and all 4 (8 virtual cores ) so im happy with my 16 gb also my 2 sticks of 8 gb each are the cheapest way to buy this amount and still have 2 slots for future upgrade if needed smile.gif
if i choose to encode a movie or run some music sampling /dj software i can and then switch back to gaming all is good.
just because you have run stuff with less doesnt mean you have to smile.gif my car does over 120 mph but the max speed limit is 70 mph

After playing Max Payne 3 and seeing all the hard work R* put into that game it would be a complete failure of them if they didn't do a better job coding this time around. IV was one of the most unoptimized pc games ever made in my opinion and I honestly don't see R* making the same mistake twice. Having said that I think GTA V will run better on lower specs than what IV could, albeit not with all the eye candy or ultra settings galore but with a better and more playable fps.

Yeah, plus ram is cheap and there is no harm is having too much compared to not having enough.

16gb IMO isn't that drastic, I had to go for that, didn't really have a choice.

MB: Asus R3E
CPU: i7 950 @3.72GHz
RAM: 12GB @1866MHz
GPU: GTX 470 SLI
SSD: 128 GB
HDD: F3 Spinpoint 1TB x2 in Raid0

Dunno on which disk I will put GTA V. Depends on size. If 20GB or less, then SSD, else on HDD.

You're what's wrong with the world.

OT: The computer I'm on right now isn't the one that can run it and I can't remember it's specs, so I'll check back later when I know for certain. I know it has a two TB hard drive at the moment, though.

maybe upgrade my cpu and graphics to eliminate any doubt, but they should be adequate, they are fine as of now running fallout on very high flawlessly.

PS - set detail distance to 100 for gta 4, shud remove a good portion of the problems wink.gif
