Ok so my GTA IV lags after a few minutes playing it, the lag kinda of increases on a gradient, very weird.

My Specs (compared to the RECOMMENDED)

Recommended System Requirements
Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3
2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Quad or 2.1GHz AMD Phenom X3
2.5 GB of RAM (Windows XP) or 2.5 GB of RAM (Windows Vista)
18 GB Free Hard Drive Space
512MB NVIDIA 8600 / 512MB ATI 3870

My Specs
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits
Intel Core i5 2310 Quad Core processor 2.90GHz
4GB of RAM
a 320GB HD
NVidia 9600 GT 1GB 256 bits.

yea thats way above the recommended and my game lags, i searched on the forum for a solution but nothing i found worked.

I can safely say that it's because of the GPU. It's DDR2 VRAM, no?

GTA 4 is badly optimized for PC. You need to do some few magic like defragmenting your PC, tweaking your game by many methods and reduce the CPU usage by closing background programs.

Here is a topic which has some tweaks about how to increase FPS.

Here is a great post by jpm1. Unfortunately, he just gave an explanation that how to increase FPS, no tweaks or mods but it's still worth to try it. smile.gif

Another thing is that, you should Update your game with the latest patch (If you are willing to play Multiplayer and want less bugs, then Patch 7 is recommended or else use Patch 4 which is optimized for Performance.) All are my choices so it's not a must to try them.

Two things which you should do: Optimizing you PC for Performance and Upgrade to latest drivers every 3 months (if any exist). Also, don't install any mod leaving Xliveless which in some cases increase the FPS but there is no support for GFWL (Games for Windows Live) i.e. no Multi-Player.

Anyways, try whatever you want but you can't come running that my game still lags. wink.gif

Read this guy's post. You have too high settings for your specs. As PrometheusX said, your GPU isn't good for high settings so upgrade it. Also, did you tried my tweaks? High settings can cause crashes and bugs which happen with Night Shadows (Good that you didn't touch it).

Same thing happens if i put on the minimum possible settings, i can get a benchmark on the minimum if you want..

No need. If I play in my computer without tweaking the game, I also get the same results. You should try those tweaks. They are no virus or anything. Tweak up your game and then post the benchmark. I want to see your shocked face. wink.gif

If you mean deleting the game settings, i just did it, thats why everything is on high, because the game puts that in by default.

I meant these tweaks. Try them and you will gain some FPS in the game. After applying these tweaks, I get 35 FPS. smile.gif You should get the same.

I'd recommend a GTX 560 Ti or 7850/7870 for a new GPU.

Hmmm.. you might as well get a 6950/7850/7870 GTX 560 Ti or higher to max the game.
