hey all,

the title says it all. I reinstalled the game today and I got to a box that said: "Do you want to delete GTA IV save data" or something along those lines and I said No. Uninstall went as usuall. Then, I reinstalled the game normally. Then started the game. And then, I find myself starting the whole game over again.

I really don't see how pressing No made the game delete all my saved data. I worked so hard on it.

Plsssssss help!!!!!

Seeing as you already deleted it, there's nothing to do. Try installing SNT and re-doing it that way

Hmm, maybe they aren't deleted? You had xliveless installed, then the save files on the uninstalled version of GTA IV, including xliveless installed might have been located here:
Windows XP SP3: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames
Windows Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames
Windows 7: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames

Have you tried searching for those locations (depending on what OS you have + remember to un-hide AppData folder if you're on Vista / 7)? Have you tried looking for the save files in their original location (Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames I think though I'm really not sure about this)? Have you also tried searching for those save files in the Search Engine of your PC? You know... Start -- Search -- Select All files and folders -- Select Drive C: for search location and type in the search box SGTA4. Hope this helps.

miromiro: I searched the SGTA4 you suggested and it came up with a bunch or results like SGTA400 and SGTA412. what are they for?

Uhh, I believe those are you save files. Hmm, try copying them in the Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames location. I'm not sure if this is the correct location, could you tell me your OS?

Alright, put both saves here: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames. The AppData folder might be hidden, so here's what you can do to unhide it. Good luck, hope this helps. icon14.gif

I put the saves files in the savegames folder but nothing happened. It's still stuck at the begining.

Is this GTAIV or eflc we're talking about? What happens if you try to load a game manually?

mkey82: This is GTAIV. what do you mean by loading it manually? Do you mean just clicking on the game shortcut and selecting your GTA version and then pressing play? because if thats it, It won't take me to select my gta version and then I just go to the begining again.

I believe he means that if after you start a new game, pause it, and go to Game -- Load and see if there are any savegames to load. If there aren't, then simply start a new game and save it in Slot 5. After you've done that, go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames and check if there are any save games like SGTA405 or some saves ending to a close number to 5.

In that case move all the other save files (SGTA412 & SGTA400) in the same folder and try to load them.

savegames created or edited when using xliveless can't be used without xliveless.

so u'll have to add the savegames to the savegames folder in: Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames. that last folder is made by xliveless.

if u don't want to use xliveless, i'm sorry, but u'll then have to redo it all.
