So, I got San Andreas working, but the game randomly freezes, and then it plays again.

Help?

Do you have the original copy of the game?
Are you using No/CD cracks?
Do you have any mods installed?

I have no copy, I purchased and downloaded it off of Rockstar warehouse.

No crack/pirating, legit serial code; read above.

Just HD clouds mod.

I recommend you to uninstall that mod. You may never trust mods. Just uninstall it and see if it works without it, if it does, then you've found the problem. Besides, try removing the gta_sa.set file located in the San Andreas User Files.

Remove the mod it MIGHT be the cause. Try deleting the gta_sa.set file in your User Files Directory.

Which one should I remove first? The mod or the ".set" file?

First remove the mod, and if it still won't work after you've done that, remove the gta_sa.set file as well.

Ah, I don't think I can remove it; the mod replaced my "particle.txd" file, am I screwed?

Hmm, such mods usually ask you to back-up your original file, have you done that? If not, you should re-install the game. But try removing the gta_sa.set before re-installing the game, maybe you won't even need to.

Deleted ".set" file...

Tested... problem still occurs.

In that case re-install the game, and next time make sure to back-up your files when you replace them, in case issues like this one will happen.

I re-installed it, and it still happens.

Is this a known issue?

My version is V1.01

Try reinstalling the game following this method. You still haven't told us what OS you have, but if you're on Vista try this:

1) Uninstall San Andreas.
2) Delete the installation folder if it still exists. (e.g. C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas).
3) Delete the Virtual Store copy of the installation folder too. The Appdata folder might be hidden. (e.g. C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas).
4) Delete the gta_sa.set file located at C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files.
5) Reboot.
6) Reinstall San Andreas.

The mods are causing you the problem I think. Try downloading the DATA folder, by searching it on the web. Since original files are not allowed to share on the forum. smile.gif

He re-installed it already.

I would recommend to update to the latest graphics drivers and play with Hardware acceleration (sorry, can't remember where it is, but it's in the sound control panel somewhere).

Version 1.01

This bothers me.
Version One (Disc Only) hasn't been available since 2006.
Version Two is on Disc Only.
Version one and two are not downloadable, from any legal source..
Version three is the Download game.
Version three is NOT modable.
Patch 1.01 is for version one ONLY. All the other versions already contain the fixes in the V1.01 patch. Appling the Patch 1.01 will either be rejected or won't work on V1, or V2 games.

mercie_blink.gif Dunno what to say, bought and downloaded officially from the Rockstar Warehouse. Serial from Matthew A. on Rockstar support ticket request.

I should point out that when it "freezes", it isn't lag*, it freezes completely, I lose control of my mouse, keys, and anything else, but the sound is stuck in a loop (Not like Half-Life 2, Can't really describe it.), then the game continues after, but it happens again randomly. (In a short time)

P.S. I love correcting you, weasel. tounge.gif

(Note: "*" = Not entirely sure.)

Have you tried to run the game in Windows 98 Compatibility mode?

I just did, it froze at a black screen. (With a faint Nvidia logo)
