Hi All

I'm having a problem with a recent install of GTA IV on my PC. I have searched the web for many hours for a solution and even contracted rockstar, all to no avail. I have come to you guys to see if anyone had the same problem and knows of any fix for it.

I installed the game and my XBOX360 controller worked fine with no problems. I then logged into live and was presented with an update for the game. Having used an XBOX & PS3 i thought nothing of updating the game as these updates should hopefully fix any issues or bugs, however the latest update (1.0.7.0 i believe) has caused an issue with the game.

As I still wanted to save my game I proceeded to update so I would not get logged out of live. One I fired the game back uo I found that the controller was not functioning. I then in stalled EFLC and had the same problem. I uninstalled completely and reinstalled IV and once I fired the game again, hey presto the controller worked. I proceeded to update once more and yet again the controller had no response. I checked the options and even the controller diagram of the controller had dissappeared.

I have used the controller on other games, tested it through the controll pannel so I know that Windows is picking up the controller and it is functioning correctly. Any help would be appreciated form anyone.

I really don't recall anymore, but there should be a direct input setting in the game options, under controls. Try toggling that one on and off.

In my experience, the directinput option does nothing for my controllers. Use a profiler like xPadder or check this thread out.

Alternatively, wired Xbox controllers are fairly cheap to buy these days.

Direct input does nothing. Have tried removing controller and have now found that the keyboard doesn't function proerly either. I get some keys working but most aren't (i.e 'F') key. I have spent a few more hours searching and I found one person in the ether of the interweb who had a software conflict with photoshop but I don't have any programs like that running. Is anyone awre of any programs that migt conflict with the game?

Is that a wired or wireless controller you have? GTAIV is rather known about how it doesn't work correctly with wireless input devices.

It's wireless. In all fairness it took me while to get the adaptor installed correctly but once I did it was fine. The funny thing is that every other game I have installed plus the emulators will recognise the input. I have tried to use the keyboard but have found that that isn't working either now. It will not recognise some keys but not all. I'm bloody confused and rockstar have been no help. Pretty sure I'm the only person in the world with this issue!!!! Only thing I can think to do is a whole new install of Windows and hope that clears it. Bit of a pain and will require yet more hours but it's the only thing I can think of. Perhaps I'll persevere a bit longer to see if I can find another fix...

You're not the only person having this problem. Others had problems with wireless keyboard and mice, I really have no idea what did R* do to fudge this up, I always thought stuff like input method is handled via standard libraries.

Hmmm....Just seems that through the hours of trawlling through stuff inline there seems to be no fix and no comments about my exact problem. I suppose I'll have to wait to see if R* reply to my message or carry on with my uninstall spree to see if there's any software conflicting. I will try a reformat of my PC at some point to see if that works. I suppose this gives me a great opportunity to clean my system up a bit though!!!
