50 characters is way too much already. Actually, I don't know how it'd work with more, it could even mess the page. Besides, the actual post should contain more than 50 characters, not the title.

50 characters for the topic title has worked perfectly fine for the last 10 years. Why would it be insufficient now? Topic titles are supposed to be concise. Any add-ons can be put in the title description field and the details within the opening post.

That's true but I'm only thinking of an extra 10 or 20 as that is what I am most often short of. That is also probably the norm for most boards I belive.

Use the topic description for what you can't fit into the title. Problem solved.

What do you actually want to post in a topic title? Usually members post a simple 3-4 words topic title in all normal topics around, extending the title after that in the first post. As Girish said, it's been like this for years, and you can always take the extra space for text from the topic description.

If you feel the max title length is short then you need to make your titles shorter. Like I said, you can continue your title in the topic description field, if you still fall short.

All these are relatively descriptive topic titles that let you know exactly what discussion you're going into without being more than 50 characters. I don't know what to tell you. If you can't even get to the point in your topic title then what hope is there for your thread?

As for the topic titles, I've noticed some of your topics, your titles are unnecessary.

You go into to much detail with the title, it's meant to be a brief summary with description as an expansion.

Then you contain your issue in the message box below.

Well, we all learned something today. What that is is of little importance and probably detrimental to our development as human beings, but we learned it anyways.
