| QUOTE (GTASAIDEAMASTER @ Monday, Jul 2 2012, 08:19) | | Never heard of this game | lol really? how old are you? anyway, I'm really looking forward to this. Total War is - of course - the definite modern RTS in my humble opinion. I've played every installment since the first, and I'm not even that much of an RTS person. I typically play action / RPG / FPS games more than anything. but Total Wars have never failed to disappoint. and I still believe that Empire is the single best game of the series. but I'm really looking forward to going back to Rome. hopefully it's a better remake than Shogun 2 was. Shogun 2 was fine in terms of gameplay, but unfortunately the campaign itself was so utterly boring. there's no replay value in Shogun 2 like there is in most Total War games because there's no variety. no matter what dynasty you picked all of the units were the exact same, just different colors. and the goal was the exact same no matter what side you were on; to reach the heart of Japan. so it doesn't matter how many times you play, everything plays out exactly the same, but from different directions. they cannot let Rome 2 fall into this trap. every faction needs its own UNIQUE units and UNIQUE goals for conquest.

you should read the interview that was included with the screenshots.

they have confirmed that Rome 2 will feature sea battles on the same battlefield as land. meaning that during the same battle, the scope might be so large that you are controlling both infantry and naval units on different fronts of the same map.
huge battles will be possible, bigger than any previous Total War game. |
That'll make micro-managing that much harder but so be it if the battlefield is now expanded to such an extent. Excitement level just shot up here haha. One interesting thing I'd look forward to is more diversity in the cities. The first Rome TW impressed me with the fact that buildings that were built in the city were visible when attacking, and this was remarkable at the time. With the technology we have nowadays, I hope to be able to see certain cities such as Rome have their own distinct layout when attacking instead of just a generic large city, and just be able to bask in the beauty of the city as I'm tearing it down with artillery and whatnot. This will make attacking much more intriguing as opposed to Empire Total War where there's usually just attacking a star fort of some sort in siege battles. This kind of repetitiveness on such a large map is something I could do without. The soundtrack of Rome TW was also superb, and the little things such as the commanding officer giving speeches deriding the opposing force also added to the experience of the game. These qualities absolutely must remain in the remake. This post has been edited by Adler on Tuesday, Jul 3 2012, 02:42
