I have completed the game a long time ago. Recently I realized, though, that I had not taken out all the Most Wanted criminals on the Police Car computers.

Took care of that.

So for the past couple of days I have just been doing vigilante stuff.

Here is my problem.

I start up the Police Computer, click on "Current Crimes" and then choose one to go after.

The siren starts, but I do not get back to the view of the police car and the street it is on.

I know I only have a certain length of time to get to the crime location, but the game stays stuck on the Current Crimes menu for sometimes as long as 10-20 minutes.

It does not always stay stuck on that menu. Sometimes it flips right to the street scene so I can begin the vigilante mission immediately.....sometimes it waits up to 30 seconds.....all the while, the siren is going off, the normal sound of that location can be heard (peds walking by talking on their cell phones, ambulance sirens in the distance, cars going by, etc.), but at least half the time, once I choose a crime to go take care of, I am stuck on the Current Crimes menu for 5 sometimes even 10 minutes.

So......I am just curious if any of you fellow citizens of Liberty City have ever had this problem, and if so, were you ever able to figure out what was causing it, and how to fix it?

I have the latest ATI drivers (always), an AMD Phenom 9600 X4 Black Edition Quad-Core and 4 gigs of DDR2 PC1066 ram, and have a retail version of the game with update 1.0.4, running on Windows 7 32-bit.


Not a major problem, as the rest of the game plays fine. Just want to see if anyone else ever had this issue.

Are you using any mods? The police computer can often get bugged.

Well, let's see.

I had installed the asiloader, to try a first-person mod, but I uninstalled the mod because I did not like it.

And installed contig.exe and some other stuff to optimize the game.

Also, installed a Lamborghini Countach car model, and customized the colors available so I could have a lemon yellow one.

That is pretty much it. No heavy mods or radical customization.

Something I forgot to mention is that, being stuck on the Current Crimes menu, I cannot get out. No matter what keys I hit on my keyboard, it just sits there with the siren wailing and the standard background noise.

It is faster to do a hard shut down of the game and restart than it is to sit there and wait and wait and wait for the screen to get back to the police car.

Thanks for the comment about the Police Computer being corrupt. This gives me another search perameter.

I had done several searches for "Current Crimes menu" or "Current Crimes screen" but could never find any results about this.

Am going to get back into the search engine now for "Police computer corrupt" or "Police Computer corruption".

Well, I have found out I am not the only person to have this problem, lol:

No solution.

One other thing is that when I start playing, it works fine, I select a crime, and it switches right back to the cop car and I can go murder the criminals. But eventually it gets stuck for longer periods of time, until I have to restart the game to get out of the CC menu.

Will keep investigating here and using Google and if I find any answer to this I will post it here.

This is most likely down to the savegame problems, for whatever reason (most probably something leaks crap all over the savegame) stuff that breaks game mechanics can happen. As long as it doesn't affect the story you should be happy. If you have an older savegame, try loading that. Or start a new game, don't know how long it has to pass for the police computers to become active.

One thing I did notice was that if I restart the game, the problem does not exist. It sort of develops as time goes on.

Funny...might have something to do with my settings. I happened on the threads about textures slowly disappearing....and that has been happening a bit as well recently.

I will muck around with my settings and see what happens.
